It wasn't his own bar, he was working there for a hotel or someting.

It was part of a hotel resort.

The guy who approaches the bar while eyeing up the females tells Flanagan that the hotel staff told him he gets a complimentary drink. Which is what a lot of hotels do for new guests.

ya that was exactly what i was thinking of as kazuya says, there is no definitive moment where its clear that hes just an employee or not. there was no sign of any boss, and he was working on his own anytime i saw him there. they should have at least showed how he ended up in that place in the caribbean in the first place.

Where'd he get the money for the bar at the end, which clearly WAS his own?

reply

He says to Jordan that he has some money saved up, and has worked out a loan from his uncle for the rest.

I think he was just an employee. Plus, I understand that it (at least in the '80s) did not take much money at all to open a stand or beachside bar then.

As for the bar at home, its amazing how money just appears in movies isn't it lol?
I know they said he got a loan plus his savings, but we're to believe one man living hand to mouth, in New York with a PREGNANT bride no less, can manage to open a big bar like that one?

"Penfold, shush."

The part about it being easy to make a lot of money working at a bar in Jamaica was very clear. And as a business major I would assume he was very smart about knowing how to save the money he made at the NYC bars.

Oh and Doug left him money after he died.

Doug didn't have a penny to his name which is the reason he killed himself.

Hey, what the fùck happened?
I guess he didn't appreciate the use of language.
