It doesn't like the cold?
It comes from space...a notoriously cold place. Seems a little illogical. I wonder if they avoided fire because that was the weakness of The Thing.

shareThe government created the Blob, so it didn't actually originate from space.
shareIt still fell from space, where it seemed to have done just fine.
shareIt's worth noting that the cold doesn't seem to actually kill it though (at least not at the temperature it was subjected to), since the reverend has a revived piece of it in a jar at the end of the movie. It's not really illogical since it isn't a biological creature that originated from an environment that would kill it, but a combination of bacteria, radiation, and human experimentation.
shareI alaays thought that felt like a sequel setup that we never got.
shareIt may have been frozen in space and thawed in the atmosphere or after the crash..people live in cold climates, doesn't mean they like the cold.
shareThe blob came from the planet Mercury, which is a extremely hot planet
