Their story as I imagine it:
After the events of the Blob, Brian and Meg help with clearing the beast and getting it to the ice house. Government agencies come to collect it and ship it to Antarctica.
The town starts recovering. They celebrate Brian and Meg's actions. Meg responds with gratitude. Brian sheepishly attempts to, but it's odd him after feeling like an outcast for so long. He decides to leave and Meg goes to stop him. "They're important to you too Brian. I thought you changed."
Brian looks at her, "They did." He says giving her one longing look.
"Brian.. don't..."
"Take care Meg."
He heads off leaving her behind with the town they saved.
It's not happy or sad. They always have a deep respect after what happened that night.
