Any chance for special edition DVD/Bluray?

I mean come on, no matter what anyone says, The Blob is cult classic sci-fi horror of 80's and great remake which is hell of a lot better then original, so why we still don't have special edition of it?

It would be great to see interviews with director, cast and crew, documentaries in which they would explain how did they made the blob and filmed all the special effects scenes, plus if often rumoured deleted and alternate scenes would be included that would also be cool.

Twilight Tilme through Screen Archives Entertainment will be releasing a bare bones, limited edition of this on Blu-Ray later this year but it'll probably include none of the special features you're looking for.

It's coming on bluray on October 14th. Not sure what's included if anything. I hope for a good remixed soundtrack but I'm thinking it'll be in a Dolby digital stero or DTS Stereo mix.

Special Features: Isolated Score Track / Audio Commentary with Director Chuck Russell and Horror Authority Ryan Turek / Friday Night Frights at The Cinefamily / Original Theatrical Trailer

Pre-order date: Wednesday, September 24th at 4 pm EST.

Those features are good but it'd be nice if they did like a documentary and interviews or something with members of the cast.

I'd love it if Scream Factory could get this and do a collectors edition bluray been really impressed with the stuff they've been putting out the last few years.

I always thought it'd be a nice idea if they'd make a special edition steel book case with the title print being raised like it does at the end of the theatrical trailer. That plus interviews, the deleted scenes and alternate versions of scenes, and documentaries about the special effects.

I was interested in getting the Blu-Ray from Twilight Time, but it's not worth the $35 (with shipping) for a commentary track. I don't care how "limited" it is. I'll pass and hope for a better release, eventually.

I agree.

In 2014, for something limited to 5,000 copies and only sold on one website (http://www.screenarchives.com/title_detail.cfm/ID/28099/), just giving four not-so-special features isn't going to cut it:

1. Isolated Score Track
2. Audio Commentary
3. Director Q&A
4. Theatrical Trailer

Here I thought Sony didn't do much with Ghostbusters, especially the Blob-like second film, but at least they put out GB2 with a handful of deleted scenes, for a VERY reasonable price, and made it a wide release available nearly everywhere.

As cool as it would be to have Blob '88 on Blu-ray, I'm sure I can get the DVD for dirt cheap now, and still be very happy with it. According to DVD Compare (http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=3940), it's anamorphic (16:9 widescreen) and has the trailer, so the only things exclusive to the Blu-ray are the isolated score, the commentary, and the Q&A - nothing that would drive me to want to own it.

I do think it's gonna be snatched up by re-sellers who'll list it on eBay and Amazon Marketplace for even more ridiculously high prices.

Sadly though there was probably not a lot of archival footage created for the film or of if there was, not much would have been retained as home releases with large supplements weren't really thought of at that time as laser disc was a niche product at best back then and DVD was a long way off.

Studios these days are reticent about creating supplements for films that were only a moderate success due to the costs involved in creating them. This release will only ever be considered a niche release in comparison with a big budget success like Jaws or Star Wars for example.

In fact, if you look at the bluray release of Star Wars, the supplements on that are very average in comparison to the DVD release of 2007. Studios these days seem to be doing less and less good work in the supplement regard compared to the peak of the DVD era.

I've just received the TT release, it's good to have the film, but the supplements are meh. At least it has a commentary.

I agree a lot aren't doing as much but a lot of the companies that release old horror films put a lot of work in look at Scream Factory and Synapse as well as a few others.

The Twilight Time Blu-ray is already sold out. 5000 copies gone faster than you can say hocus-pocus! Just thought I would pass on the bad news.

ghostbusters says -

It is.
