Young Paul

Probably an stupidly trivial observation to make about this good film but something struck me as odd when I last saw it: about twenty minutes into the film, we see, in a flashback sequence, Marion's brother Paul having a discussion about his future with his father when he was about twenty. Now, I can't say for sure as I'm not a native English speaker but doesn't his accent sound very Scottish - especially when he mentions the "paper box factory" his father wants him to work in? What is most odd about this is that a) the elder Paul (played by Harris Yulin) doesn't even remotely have an accent like this and b) that young Paul was played by New York-born Stephen Mailer, the son of Norman Mailer - I haven't seen anything else with him, though, so I'm not sure if he always talks that way.
Anyway, sorry about this rather useless observation but I was just wondering if anybody else noticed it.

Thank you for the trivia about young Paul, had no idea he is the son of Norman Mailer. Also noticed the "paper box factory" accent but couldn't quite place it...liked it though, thought it sounded very New York. You are right, there was no hint of it in the adult Paul. I was amazed at how Woody Allen could write the feelings of a woman so well. This is one of my favorite Woody Allen movies. Gena Rowlands was excellent in her part, but I do get tired of Mia Farrow's "sniffiling" in so many Allen movies.

That guy was cute. Wow, Norman Mailer has some really attractive sons! His youngest John Buffalo Mailer (editor of High Times magazine) is gorgeous.

I always thought Young Paul kinda sounded like Matthew Broderick. So much so that I checked the credits to see if he did a voice-over.
