Did Ryu (leader of rebels) survive the gunshot wound? *possible spoiler*

Hey all :),

I was just wondering about the fate of Ryu - the leader of rebels and a double agent who kidnaps Takashi. If I remember correctly, he gets shot by the corrupt Prime Minister in the gut (small caliber pistol, close range).

He is later shown bleeding heavily and then following the Akira worshippers and uttering "Kei", I guess hoping that he will find her.

In the manga which I have recently read his fate is...

*MODERATE SPOILER*

that he dies at the end, but not from a bullet wound. He
gets crushed by debris from the explosion caused by Tetsuo.

In the film, it is not really presented to us what his final fate is.
He may have died from the bullet wound (he was bleeding pretty heavily imo), he could have died after the final explosion, although he might have survived too.

What do other people think? :)

"He is later shown bleeding heavily"
No he didn't survive.

Here's some Examples:
The first "kiddnapper" of Takashi, had been shot many times: He died.
The guard (I cant recall exact profession) gets shot in the face when spotting Kaneda: He died.
The Resistance got shot at in the sewers: A guy died.
Not shot, but the crazy guy with the grenade did not survive.

To answer your question, if you get shot and/or mortally wounded in that story.. you don't survive.

I always found his death better in the movie than in the Manga.
He's a true revolutionary guy who has been manipulated by this horrible Nezu. Nezu dies in the shadows of the street, unable to take with him all the money he stole from the people.
Ryu dies in the light, seeing that the revolution he hopped and fought for is happening.
