really dont think it would work as a live action film..

seems like to me a big part of what made the anime so great was the insane and amazing detail in some of the action scenes that were drawn. of course a lot of that would have to be done in cgi now.. there's just no other way that I could think of that they could do it. the matrix got that kind of cgi pretty right but if you go back and watch it again the cgi seems pretty obvious now. I'm just not nearly as impressed with cgi as I used to be. plus even if they DID get the greatest cgi team in the world to work on this movie, i doubt they would be able to translate some of the scenes with the same elegance and power that the original had. just my opinion.

sure i would have wanted to see the remake if they had made one, but it kind of doesn't bother me as much that it's probably not going to happen.

I hope they end up shutting down the production for good. There is NO need to remake this film. NONE WHATSOEVER!!!!

AMEN to that, I don't need another one of my favorite films ruined by hollywood

I personally don't want the film to be made the way they're trying to make it right now but I wouldn't mind a faithful 2 part adaptation of the original Akira manga series since that would be the best way to do the story justice.

I wouldn't mind seeing a completely CGI version that's faithful to the manga (which I've never read, btw).
Kind of like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which I still contend is a good movie.
It might have to have a sequel or trilogy to do it right.

If i had a billion dollars I'd give it all to Otomo and let him make the version he has always wanted.

It would be an amazing challenge to make a live action version of a film as epic as this one.

A lot of what is in this movie would not translate into live-action very well without being bastardized. Some other themes and concepts within would also hit too close to home with western/modern audiences.

The one scene that makes me think that this movie would not translate to live-action well is near the beginning when he shoots the two dogs, people would be in a rage if they saw something like that (no matter how fake/cg'd the blood would be.)
