This should have been a mini-series.

Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. But I feel like a more direct adaptation of the manga would be incredible. Half of the graphic novel was more or less ignored. I know the movie was put out before the manga ended, but now that it's been done for over twenty years...hint hint, not Hollywood...

What? You thought those were ding dong prices? Hahaha, no, no...

I agree too. I felt the movie was too cramped with all the characters and themes present. I think if it was made into a series then everything could've ben fleshed out and maybe even more stuff could've been added.

Like Akira. He definitely could have been added.

I wonder why they never did it, because the Japanese are used to make long time anime or film series of the most successful mangas.

I'm surprised they haven't at least done an OVA series by now, they could have banked on the 25th Anniversary of the movie that way and I'm sure the surviving original VA's would have been more than happy to reprise their roles.

It's a good adaptation of a very long, complicated manga, especially so given the extreme constraints of a single feature film. Making a series using the animation techniques of 1988 would not have been feasible.

A full-on anime TV adaptation would be freaking awesome. Or maybe they aught to give it the Hellsing Ultimate OVA treatment. :)

Take it up with Otomo. It was his decision to go ahead and make the movie when the manga was nowhere near completion. He knew what he was doing, it was fully intentional that the manga and the movie would be two very different things. When you compare them directly, they don't line up very well. That's not some sloppy accident, it's how Otomo chose to do it.
