When was there a rape in Les Miserables? Fantine was a prostitute, and she cried about it, but it wasn't rape. Who was raped in Les Mis?

reply

Russell Crowe's vocal cords.

I wouldn't consider To Kill a Mockingbird a film about sexual assault. It's more about the trial of a man wrongly accused of sexual assault.

reply

I agree about Mockingbird. There was no rape just Bob Ewell beating up his long suffering daughter. Mayella Ewell stole the scene right away from Atticus but he got it back during his summation.

reply

I always thought there was at least a strong implication that Bob Ewell didn't just beat his daughter, but also raped her, and may have been coercing her into an incestuous relationship for some time.

In any case, even if all those scenes were only about false accusations of rape, it is still a film in which rape is an important element of the storyline.

Kevin Dillon was NOMINATED for an award, for When He's Not A Stranger. Does that count...?

Totus Tuus O Maria!!! Totus Tuus O Jesu!!!!

reply

Pulp Fiction (1994) won for Best Original Screenplay, but that probably doesn't count since the rape scene isn't the main story in the movie. (Come to think of it, there's no main story at all.)

You should write a book about this topic with that title. It could make for one helluva coffee table book. A conversation starter, indeed.
