Bernie Coulson

Bernie Coulson is great as Ken, the frat-guy witness who does the right thing. The film even "introduces" him in the credits. Why didn't he become a bigger name in Hollywood?

Last night at the dance, my little brother paid a buck to see your underwear.

Well, what else has he done? There should be some credits on here.

reply

Because he, sadly, became a heroin addict.

I actually thought he was a Penn brother.
Maybe younger brother of Sean or Chris Penn.

In Jason Priestly's book, A Memoir, he describes in a lot of detail about how he and Bernie Coulson were good friends from their days getting started in acting in Vancouver. In the 80s, they were roommates in L.A. when Coulson got his big break first, acting in The Accused. It seemed that the two friends drifted apart as Priestly got his role on 90210 and went on to other projects. Sadly, in a later chapter, the two old friends worked on a film in Toronto (I think), and Coulson (who was always into drugs) had become addicted to crack. It was very sad, and it seems that Priestly had little to do with him after that. Read the book if you want more details.

Long way from his role in the Police Academy movies. Good performance.
