I found this scene to be particularly disturbing (it's the only scene that has always bothered me more than any other) but beyond that it seemed unbelievable and ridiculous. I couldn't believe that anyone would behave this way. I'm not saying it's impossible but the whole thing just seemed extremely unlikely.

You mean slamming her car several times into that guy's truck? I also found it stupid that she would wreck her car but she was totally out of control when he kept laughing and harassing her. I don't know how she was feeling but knowing she was recognized sent her into a psychotic mode. Jodie was fabulous in the role and glad she won the Oscar.

I know but I just could not believe that someone would act that way at all. I can believe the entire gang-rape situation in which one guy at least seemed to actually be pushed into doing it but this particular scene was just WEIRD. Maybe it's just me!

I can see it. The guy in that scene was the same guy who instigated the whole rape in the first place. He had to have obviously been sick in the head and had some sort of hatred toward women to begin with because any decent human being would be sickened by witnessing such brutal and animalistic behavior. Plus he likely felt like she just got what she deserved and probably wanted because she was dressed and behaving so provocatively in a bar full of drunk men. Add that to the fact that he didn't actually physically participate in the rape, so he thought that he was innocent of any criminal wrong doing and when he recognized her, he decided he'd get a kick out of bullying and humiliating her a little further without any real consequences.

The thing was that that guy (Scorpion) was sort of the ringleader of the guys who egged the rapists on. He recognized her from that night and was teasing her and she couldn't take it anymore and slammed her car into his truck because she wanted to hurt his ass in any way possible.

The scene where Scorpion accosts her while she's shopping, then starts to mock her and make the obscene "poking" gesture as she tries to drive away. He kept calling her "Sexy Sadie".
There's something about that guy's stupid face that made the scene slightly bizarre, alright. A really punchable mug. I would imagine that someone who would behave like that (at the store) and carry out a crime like he did in the bar, would have a history of such behaviour. But I simply can't imagine that a group of men, who don't seem to know each other very well, would suddenly be overcome by lust to the extent that they would carry out such a heinous assault. A group of friends, yes, with some malice aforethought, yes, but not a disparate group of previously well behaved customers turning into animals just because a girl wears a short skirt and does a dance.
Also, Scorpion didn't join in, but he enthusiastically encouraged the others, ordering them to "pump that butt" etc (his position gave him a better view of the MEN'S rear ends than any part of Sarah's anatomy). Freud would have a field day with him.
Yeah, it was pretty absurd. The whole scene felt like some black comedy, especially with the crash at the end.
shareI was wondering if bumping twice into that guy's car like she did couldn't seriously compromise the plaintiff's arguments, since it occurred right in the middle of her trial . This said, I would qualify the scene as disturbing (watch the "poor thing" turn into a maniac all of a sudden!), but not that unlikely to occur.
