I'm doing a report on this subject. Would anybody like to give any feedback on this? My opinion on it is no matter what the other person is wearing, that doesn't give the other person a right to take advantage of them. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
The "inner" fantasy for a man would be to think of lifting her up on the pinball machine and doing her but the logic and moral disgust SHOULD KICK IN and those men that rape are the scum of the world!
Still she was putting herself out there and acted like a fool!
It's happened several times 'up here' over the last 25 Yr. There's no Police to call; the Sheriff won't do anything, so "why bother"?? We just "police" ourselves.
The concept of; "don't walk near Bears smelling like honey" should apply here, but it doesn't. Men are suposed to act like men, not animals etc.
The film did a good job of showing the aspects of a "rape trial" and Jodi did too.
Rape was around back in the days when women wore their dresses down to their feet and up to their chins and then the rapist had to get through all the petti-coats, pantaloons, chemises and corsets. Women wearing jeans and sweatshirts get raped. So, the answer to your question is, what do YOU think? If a man has you pegged for rape, he doesn't care about how much or how little you are wearing.
I just think it's funny how this board talks about what the woman should and should not do ...if she doesn't want attention she shouldn't dress provocatively.. she's at risk if she's wearing a skirt, etc. etc.- Do you realize that the decision in this crime is completely up to the attacker? Why do people fault the woman AT ALL when the crime is the man's choice??? It shouldn't be the issue of what women wear, it should be the issue of men's self-control. In other words, if men can't handle seeing a woman in skimpy clothes without jumping on her, then that's pretty sad.
I want to change the system from within the system. - Jodie Foster
hitchcock_blonde, thats so sad. How old are you now? If you dont mind me asking..must've been terrible, I can't even imagine. Have you been okay after that horrific incident?. I hope everything was fine after that ordeal, even though it must've been so difficult. Thanks for making your point too..its also crucial.
I truly appreciate your kind words Sensitive78. I am 44 now, so it has been a while, but unfortunately an experience like that never truly leaves you, you have to just try to live with it as best as you can.

Ohh okay. Yeah it does not, I cant even imagine. But like you said, you have to try to live it the best way you can, and appreciate the beautiful things that our life has blessed us with, family or friends, and other good human beings.
There are people capable of committing a rape and those who aren't. The way a person dress might make those who aren't capable thought of committing a rape but they just not gonna do it.
I realize this thread is incredibly old, and I haven't read all the posts, but from what I understand the way a woman is dressed can influence rape - but not in the way most people would think.
Many rapists are looking for easy targets that they can catch and rape quickly and easily - ponytails have been reported to be an easy way for a rapist to grab hold of a victim, for example. Loose fitting clothes, things with straps that can be easily removed are preferred; a woman who takes minutes to undress is a bigger risk that one you can have naked in 20 seconds.
It's been addressed that rape is almost never about sex or being horny, it's about power, these men will look for targets that are easy to assault, they're not looking for women dressed in a provocative manner - such a woman would probably attract more attention anyway and in public she'd be less of a target, I'd think.
I can't guarantee that this is correct in the majority of cases, but this is what I heard recently during a rape presentation we were given.
"A Christian should have only one wife. This is called monotony."
Someone may have already suggested this, but if it is about how a woman dresses then why do 80-year-old grannies get raped?? Or little children?? Even men are raped by heterosexual men - I hardly think these people can be accused of "asking for it"!
If a woman dresses provocatively, why do rapists assume it is being aimed at them?? Are men so uncontrollable at the sight of a short skirt or low-cut top??
I agree with you, but I just posted that sometimes a woman dresses up the way she did and they look like they were looking for 'something' plus they drank and did drugs and if a women didn't want to be rape why did she drink and smoke pot or whatever to get lose and all that jazz? As for the men who thought 'hey she is out of it, it will be so quick and easy'.
What an episode of law & order SVU called Consent and another one called Doubt, both of these show young women who are victims of rape and yet they make their case look unconvincing.
Pretty much yeah, that is my problem when people think that you can be responsible when it comes to drinking and drugging. That is like saying that 'I own a gun but I am very careful not to accidentally shoot my kid or anybody that I know and love'.
