EASY GOER
Thank you for the excellent link. Taken this film in it's entirety, I am so glad it was made.
When sex of any nature is involved (especially with a story of this nature), the "Hollywood Establishment" (major Hollywood studios, producers and the MPAA in general) can be and usually is very puritanical. It's a small miracle this film was made.
Primarily based on a documented, true case, all aspects of the making this film took a lot of courage. From the producer, director, actors (especially Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis); plus everyone else involved, I have to give full credit to all for doing such a good job. That especially goes for Ms. McGillis, who came forward two years later and shared with the whole world she had been raped before. That is true courage.
It is a tragedy that so many cases of rape are not reported. I don't know the precise statistics, but I am almost positive most cases (by a large margin) are not.
This is not an easy film to watch, and the rightly; it should make people cringe. It is shameful that the person who was the real life victim didn't have anyone there with the courage to stop it.
I believe Jodie Foster is one of the most gifted American actresses out there today (and has been for some time). She absolutely earned an Academy Award for her performance in this film. I give major props to Kelly McGillis, too (all things considered).
