When I was a kid I didn't like the Dad

Now he is my favorite character lol. Anyone agree?

Why do you dislike him?

reply

He was quick to anger. The times he showed care towards his family members were few. I will admit he was not all bad. He did care for his family in his own way. He understood a good education is important. There were a few times where he surprised me by acting great, like teaching Kevin to parallel park in the middle of the night.

Many critics applauded the show when it aired, for many different reasons, including "the Dad" character. Jack Arnold was realistic and similar to a lot of real-life fathers. He wasn't the typical "tv show Dad"..happy,funny, successful, always home, loving life, saying the correct thing, Father. I liked him and he reminded me of most of my friend's fathers, too

He was a great character and father, I agree. Sometimes kids take their parents for granted too little too late, or never.

I liked the dad better now than I did as a kid, I've thought the dad was strict and moody but he did genuinely seem to care a lot for his family.

I like the dad on American dreams better--same generation and social class....but better filming/scripting. We see things through everybody's eyes as they are happening. Comes across as better written.

The dad was realistic a hard working man with 3 teenage kids always getting into trouble a complaining stay at home wife and the abuse he had to get everyday at work with his boss yellibg at him i can understand his anger lol
