In 1993, Unsolved Mysteries decided to put a white man in blackface rather than actually hire a black actor.

Yes. This happened.

Am I bothered? Should we be bothered?

reply

Outside of the reddit claim, which is hardly a credible news source, nothing supports this. Feel free to provide some credible evidence.

reply

You can see it in the Youtube video. The video link is also in the reddit thread.

I didn't find the video convincing. Did the actor look weird ? Yes.

Why would NBC hire a white man to blackface a role? It's not like UM didn't hire black actors in the frigging 1990's.

If this were true, cast and crew involved would be selling, I mean telling, the story and NBC would be making apologies like nobody's business.

reply

All the actors on that show looked weird

reply

Yes, especially Matthew McConaughey!

I didn’t even know ! I was watching 90’s twilight zone and 80s as well it was weird to see Bruce Willis calling himself on the phone and Katherine higel trying to kill baby hitler

reply

He wasn't calling Demi???Weird.😐

reply

That was the first one I watched . Bruce was fighting himself . I never really got it

reply

Was it like the twist in The Sixth Sense? That the guy in the hairpiece was Bruce Willis all along?

reply

Except Bruce was Bruce all along

reply

So basically like every role Bruce has ever played?

reply

Well without all the explosions and die hard stuff

reply

I don't know why, but it's clearly a guy with dark make-up on and he looks white to me. Maybe they filmed on location and there were no professional black actors available.

reply

There are no secrets. If it were true, some one would sell the story.

reply

I don't think that many people care about UM. Just look at the reddit comments.

reply

Maybe like you said, there were no black actors available. Maybe the original actor backed out at last minute and they needed to film quickly. It's just an actor playing a role.

reply

"Maybe they filmed on location and there were no professional black actors available." You mean other than the several black actors in the segment? Besides UM seldom used professional actors.

reply

Matthew McConaughey comes to mind. Or even an actor from the local amateur theater group. Being an extra is something else.

I don't know what the reason is, but there has to be one besides something racist. The dude is obviously a white guy in blackface, though.

reply

Talk about a storm in a glass of water.

reply

Very strange. Sure it's questionable & offensive I'm more interested in knowing exactly what led to the decision. Were they behind schedule & didn't have the time to do a casting call? Perhaps they were just doing some trolling in the waining year(s) of the show & played the whole thing totally straight for laughs.

I was accused of 'black face' by impersonating Quincy Jones in a youtube video that has over 300,000 views. I read the quotes that Quincy made against Michael Jackson.

Let me know what you think of my impersonation. Some blacks found it funny, some said it was disgusting.

reply

So what? If it's true, I don't have any problem with it.

reply

The video is removed but you can find the scene if you search "Unsolved Mysteries blackface". And there's a black actor playing a cop sitting next to the guy, so there goes your bullshit reasoning for why it happened.
