Anyone remember a series called 'Darkroom' from the early 80s???

I remember one episode starring Billy Crystal having to do with a guillotine and the Tower of London. Anyone remember the name of that episode?

reply

According to Billy's filmography, the ep was called "Make Up"

I watched the series when it came out, but don't remember many of the eps. The segments I still remember:

The kid's toy soldiers (and tanks and helicopters) coming to life and attacking the father

A researcher trying to develop a device to communicate with plants has an affair with one of his staff... when the device actually works, he invites his wife to try it out, and she kills him when the plants tell her about the affair.

A local guy at a roadside diner would target travellers with something he liked (watch, belt buckle, etc). He owned a carnival, and would invite the traveller for a free run through at night. When inside the haunted fun house, he would activate a trap door and the visitor would fall through to the water below... a creature in the water would kill the visitor... the guy lifts the item from the body, and the creature gets a "meal".

Intriging...any way to get a hold of the episodes??

reply

Very doubtful... the series only lasted for a few episodes, so no syndication or reruns... definitely not on dvd... only opportunity would be if someone happened to tape the original airings and it pops up on ebay or something.. but I don't even know if VHS or Betamax was in vogue at the time yet. With so few eps and not much drawing power for name recognition, I doubt it'll have much chance of being considered for a dvd release.

I bought a 3 disc set of Darkroom on ioffer. The quality is pretty good and all of the old commercials are left in. I only see a two disc set for sale right now though.

I remenber the one about the "witch. I think its called "Cat-Nip".
And another about a make -up case that could turn 1 guy into his favorite
movie monsters. Wishing it would arrive on DVD!But just a copy on VHS would be
very cool .I love to be able to watch um again. :)

Back in 2000...

Sci-Fi ran this ONE time. I got several episodes. Including the guillotine episode, the one with Pat Buttram(and the "fun house",) one called "uncle george", where CLaude Akins and his wife had to cripple Dub Taylor in order to pull off an insurance scam, One about a scientist that somehow "minaturizes" himself, one about a ham radio operator going back in time to WWII, and warning his father about an attack on his ship, as a result, his father LIVED BUT, the Allies LOSE the WAR!!, One called "Catnip", and the one called "dasies" about the talking plants", and the one about the toy soldiers. Maybe one or two more I forgot.

HOWEVER..each episode is LITTERED with comments from Sci-Fi about things in the episiodes, like "prepare to suspend disbelief" and such, at the bottom of the scren here and there.

But better than nothing.

DARKROOM has had an official dvd release - www.amazon.com/Darkroom-Complete/dp/B004IOWJL2/
It was released by an Australian company so it is Region 4 but it has all the episodes and a booklet about the series.
