excellent DVD

Just bought the DVD today on the release date, and I'm very satisfied with everything. Glad they're finally bringing back the classics on DVD.

Some questions for you: How much? What kind of extras are there? How many episodes? Where did you buy it? Does it have the episode where Jon and Garfield make yogurt and it fills the house?

reply

30 bucks at most places, episodes 1-24, best buy from me, no that's a later episode.

reply

Ditto, you should be able to find it for around 30 at the moment {it seems to be seliing well here in Vegas}.

The quality is very good for a cartoon that is 16 years old {has it been THAT long?}

Quick question, when did US Acres become Orson's Farm? The episodes have it as that, but the box and the jewel cases has it as US Acres {which is what i always remember it to be}.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

reply

In england i've always known it as Orsons Farm, although I was aware of it being called US Acres is USA. I've always prefered the name Orsons Farm though.

Its most likely so its more International being called Orsans Farm, than US Acres.

reply

Interesting. What threw me off was that the package says US Acres and so do the credits so i am guessing it might have been a last minute change.

reply

the reason the Orson's Farm logos are on the episodes is so they don't have to get both the US footage with US Acres and the international footage with Orson's Farm. It's lazyness at its best. You can still see US Acres in the "Grabbity" episode where Orson puts a flag on the moon with "US Acres" on it.

Yeah, whats with the theme song change too? In the dvd they play the "friends are there" theme. I remember the one where they are talking about partying... "and I hope you bring lots of spagehtti" ... anyone else notice this too?

Simply put they just kinda found it annoying so for the third season they changed it. That's why it switches over on I believe the second disc of volume two.

I enjoyed this show immensely when I was a youngster and now that it has finally come to DVD is a perfect testament to the wonderful misguided intentions of Hollywood. When I heard about the unnerving prospect of a LIVE ACTION Garfield film I felt like a part of my childhood had been violated, along with the sanctity of Jim Davis' sarcastic, gluttonous feline with his droll wit and deadpan voice. Bill Murray's impression of Lorenzo Music's unforgettable voice in the film was excellent, there'e no disputing that. Still, the film turned out to be a rather disappointing flop, big surprise. However, with the advent of Garfield: the movie coming to DVD in a few months we've been prepped with a few DVD releases of the old Garfield TV specials and now, the original series that ran on CBS. Excellent, they did a satisfactory job of cleaning up and transferring the original episodes in all of their 640X480 interlaced NTSC glory.

You guys are the testing grounds for Real Ghostbusters though.

But I'm thinking that Garfield and Friends will likely be coming out over there, especially with the whole "Orson's Farm" and "US Acres" situation that some members explained for me {thanks guys and gals}.

Still i am just looking forward to having the whole show out {already looking forward to November/December when Part 2.

It's very entertaining. Some shows dont back the same magic they did when you saw them as a kid. This, Ducktales, Real Ghostbusters and Muppet Babies are shows that you can still appreciate for the effort and quality put into them.
