Quickie/Strip

Has anyone noticed how the Garfield Quickies are based on the strips? However, I've also noticed that they have slight variations at times as well.

For example, here's one made on 12/6/90:

Garfield: Can you do any impressions, Odie?
Odie: (blows face up with thumb in mouth, then has circled ears and larger pupils to look like Mickey Mouse)
Garfield: John Wayne?

Then this is the same strip, only made in animated Quickie cartoon version:

Garfield: (walks up to Odie, who barks excitedly, then smiles as he gets an idea) Can you do any impressions, Odie?
Odie: Right (does same thing in the comic strip to have circled black ears and gloves on hands) Ta-da!
Garfield: John Wayne?
Odie: Nah.
Garfield: Arnold Schwarzenegger?
Odie: Uh-uh.
Garfield: Sylvester Stallone? Don't tell me. Jack Nicholson? Bill Cosby? Bob Hope? [I don't think that's what Garfield said, but whatever he really said was too hard to translate, so that's going to be my best guess] Micheal Jackson?
Odie: (Keeps saying wrong, covers face while Garfield shrugs).

Intersting, isn't it?

What were your favorite Quickies?

Yes, those were all great, and I really hit the laughing scale up to 9 or 10 when I saw the last one mentioned. I noticed that the strips and quickies are a little different, as I mentioned from the beginning of the thread.

Golden yes. Unfortunately, since I mainly watch the syndicated version of Garfield and Friends, I've never seen any U.S. Acres quickies (except for one that followed Moo Cow Mutt on education) until I got the DVD version.

And yes, I have seen your Something Annoys Me post from the thread Better than both movie and the strip. I didn't understand why you really didn't like the strips back then, since you said that was what annoyed you. Of course, never really losing my interests in the comic as well as the cartoon (haven't seen the movie, but I will hopefully since I have it on video).

Anyway, here's how the U.S. Quickie went as best as I can remember it:

(*Orson and Wade appear walking together as the "U.S. Acres Quickie" logo fades away*)
Orson: Roy just made an entire statue of Thomas Jefferson out of Vitamin C.
Wade: How very educational.
(*Garfield comes in to the scene*)
Garfield: All right, all right, enough already! I knew from the start that Odie wasn't a cow.
Garfield:[to farm cow] Come on Odie.
Cow: Arf!

Note: I take it you've seen Garfield and Friends in the UK since you called it Orson's Farm, which is the UK name for it since the American name is a pun of namesake (U.S.A=U.S.Acres). But since the joke only translates because of that, they decided to change to name in the UK to Orson's Farm (which is also accurate, as it tells who and where). It's similar to how they renamed Teenage Mutant *Ninja* Turtles were renamed Teenage Mutant *Hero* Turtles since they felt that ninja was a rather violent name.

Yes, I have heard about that, and from the DVD that I have (Volume 2), I did notice that although the title card say Orson's Farm (the international title), it also says U.S.Acres on the back of the box and jewel DVD covers, as well as on the end credits. I hear that on the Grabbity episode it still says "U.S. Acres" on the flag Orson plants on the moon during the daydream sequence. But you can call it either way, since it really makes no difference from them, as I said on there uses and no one should object like with the Teenage Mutant ** Turtles case.

So who wants to share any more too?

I would enjoy a show made up of nothing but these strip adaptations. I usually like them better than the longer segments. Wouldn't it be great to have a DVD collection of all the strip clips with a gallery of the original art?

Yes, that's the one that I mentioned on the opener post of this thread. Though I found it on one of the comic strip collection books.
