In the comics, does Jon know what Garfield is "saying"? I've seen comics where it looks that way, and some where it doesn't. Help!

No, Jon doesn't know. In one of the comic strips I read Garfield is trying to tell Jon that he needs to bake some Christmas cookies. Jon just looks at him and Gafield is thinking I gotta learn how to talk.
