I always thought Nermal was a girl

Imagine my surprise when I found out he's a boy cat. Am I alone on this?

I thought this for many years then I noticed that in the comics they refered to Nermal as he, why didn't they make the actress make Nermal sound more like a boy? it couldn't have been that hard many women voice young boys in cartoons, along with the voice it didn't help with the girly eyelashes and when they played dress up Nermal often wore a dress.

I always thought Nermal was a girl too, even when they kept calling him 'he', I kept figuring he was a girl and they just made a mistake. Even to this day I can't really think of him as a 'he', somehow it just doesn't work.

reply

yeah, I agree. Everytime I see or hear Nermal I always picture "him" as a girl. I wonder where they got the name "Nermal" from? lol. And in the movie he sounds a lot more like a boy.

I think the only reason he is a boy s so you won't feel as bad when Garfield beats him up

reply

Maybe he is like a uber-sexual

reply

In the spanish dubbed version they refer to Nermal as a girl, so I never noticed it was supposed to be a guy until recently.

reply

When I was younger I remember him being referred to as him or he.

always thought Nermal was a girl too.
We name my mother's cat Nermal and she it a girl.
whan my mother got the cat the neighbor had an
orange cat that would steel her food.
And my mother's cat was gray so we named her Nermal

He always was supposed to be a boy, but yeah wiht the voice and the eyelashes, i always considered him a girl. It is probably right to assume that he is a boy to jsutify the violence done to him by Garfield. Still, its a cat, the sex really is almost irrelevent. I still consider him a girl.

I thought Nermal was a female, too. In the Garfield movie, Nermal is looped over by a guy.

In the comics, Nermal had eyelashes. I figured that given eyelashes, he was a 'she.'

Weird... I always knew, that Nermal was a boy.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

Same here, I never thought of Nermal as a girl. The name, for one, isn't remotely feminine. I thought the high voice was to accentuate the fact that he was a kitten and not an adult cat and the eyelashes to emphasize his apparent cuteness. He certainly doesn't act like a girl cat either.

How does a girl cat act though?

reply

I always thought of Nermal as a girl too, just the way he talked reminds me very much of a girl, I still like to think of Nermal as a girl to this day

I always thought Nermal was a girl too. I also thought Tweety Bird and Piglet from Winnie The Pooh were supposed to be girls.
