Garfield - changed over the years?

it seems like garfield used to be more bitter back ago, but now he's gotten a more "cute" image, am i right about this?
i mean, in the very beginning, he was this incredible fat and bitter cat, then he stayed bitter, but changed appearence to a less "realistic cat", and then after that, he seems to have not only been "shaped up" more in appearence, but also lost alote of the bitterness. does he even threaten and beat up Jon anymore? i think that used to be one of the funniest bits.

i think i'll settle myself in a guest room,
couse i can't live like others do,
and i'm not fit to have a regular home,
i know i can't make it on my own,
so i'm packing a bag,
picking upp an add,
and walk my shoes,
untill i put myself in a guest room,
just a few things are all i need,
no need to have flowers to put on my window sill,
just someone to cook and clean up after me,
i promise i won't cause any trouble in this company,
i'm not gonna run anymore,
i'm shutting this door,
diffrent rooms i've lived in my life,
but now i think its the time,
to find somewhere to settle down,
i might as well chose this old town,
maybe my old funny buddy can come see me sometime,
i'm here with all new furnitors now,
yeah, that's what i'll do,
i'll move myself into a guest room.

True in the comic it seems, and especially true in the cartoon. Not sure how it affects the comic, but his niceness actually made the cartoon a bit more watchable...it's not really entertaining watching his mean-ness and selfishness on the screen over and over again. When they made him nicer they didn't really destroy his greediness or laziness or his "id" - they just made him less of a jerk.

Meh, Garfield is supposed to be a douchebag, really, thats his appeal. I'm all for making him look cuter, but hes gotta stay sora douchey.

I had a cat named Fluffy. She used to throw up all over me and the Pet Taxi when we traveled from Modesto to Fresno by car! She was killed by a nasty dog in 2009! A watered down version of Garfield seems to be bankable right now. The Cartoon Network version of Garfield doesn't feel like the Garfield that my brothers and sisters used to enjoy in the 1980's and 1990's.

In the comics and in the original cartoons from the 80s and early 90s, Garfield was always lethargic, cynical and sarcastic and yet loveable and appealing. It was a perfect combination and it is what drew millions of fans in worldwide. Nowadays, probably due to so much PC garbage, he's been watered down. I really can't stand the newer Garfield cartoons. Plus, it's just not the same without Lorenzo Music providing the voice (R.I.P.).
