Man, why all the hate for U.S. Acres?

I know it's not as great as the Garfield cartoons but I always liked them.

Hated the characters, the farm setting, and the fact that I had to sit through it to see the last episode of Garfield.

reply

I like "US Acres" too. My favorite character is Wade Duck.

Yes, it's true! IMDB has reached Sweden!

Oh yeah, it was funny, Wade especially, "HELP! I am TINY! I am MI-NUTE!"

"HELP! Call the Coast Guard, Call the Marines, Call Peter Pan! HELLP! They'll make me walk the plank! and we aren't even near an ocean! Hellllp!"

"And so chicken licken, cocky locky, ducky wucky, sheepy creepy, rooster shooster, mousy wousy, wooly bully, catty fatty, beaver cleaver, wormy squirmy, mallard ballard, hippo zippo and chicky wicky all went to see the king." I always roll on the floor during that one, it's just TOO funny.

And I still quote Wade on that one line of his 'icko bi-dicko' Just about everything he said was hilarious, especially when he mis-pronounced words like 'an-gle food cake'.

I like the US Acres cartoons. I thought there were just as good as the Garfield cartoons. Maybe the people who hate them have acctually been to farms in Jim Davis' home state.

"Yoooooo banana nose, now you know how my sailboat goes. Heeeeeeeeeere's Montana ears! I have ears so my sister can steer! Hey hey hey! Indiana toes! Getting me across those winter snows. Whatever the name, I'm still the sammmmmmmmeeeee, nice person."

I myself never cared for the U.S. Acres. They just didn't fit in with the Garfield style I think. Plus they were kind of annoying too. I always felt like Garfield was way too badass for them. The only reason they were on Garfield was because Jim Davis probably insisted they be on there. If he had tried to make them into a seperate 30 minute TV show they would have probably never made it to TV or if they did, they probably wouldn't have lasted over a month.

reply

Probably, but the fact remains that Jim Davis did Garfield, and he did U.S. Acres, both started out as comics, and both made it to TV, and I for one am glad they did. I always enjoyed U.S. Acres, especially like the Barn of Fear episodes, and I always loved Wade's lines, and like in the cartoon episode when Sheldon said 'Roy, the barn's full of hockey pucks and your goldfish ran away!', and when Wade's reading Chicken Licken and he says:

"Sure you can come with us to meet the king," said Piggy Wiggy. So Chicken Licken, Cocky Locky, Ducky Wucky, Piggy Wiggy, Sheepy Creepy, Lamby Wamby, Puppy Wuppy, Goosey Woosey, Goosy Poosy, Horsey Worsey, Weasel Geasel, Turkey Lurkey, Hawky Tawky, Foxy Woxy, Eggy Leggy, Wooly Bully, (takes breath) Catty Fatty (Garfield walks by), Beaver Cleaver, Wormy Squirmy, Hoggy Woggy, Rooster Shooster, Fishy Wishy, Apey Wapey, Toady Woady, Mallard Ballard, Hippo Zippo, Mousey Wousey, and Chicky Wicky all went to see the king!

Every time I see that one I just LAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH it's too funny!

I don't mind the US Acres cartoons either. Some of them are so funny! Orson's Diner, I always lolz at the part when Orson keeps pulling out the same "Deja Vu" book from the box of books, and when Roy keeps ordering crazy meals thinking that Orson won't be able to make it so he'll get free food. The first time I saw the Whodunnit episode (which was on the DVD) with the three dogs named Who, What and Where, I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe. And the one with the robot that can control the weather. And the Fortune Cookie episode. I lolz at the look on Orson's face (he looks "evilly" into the camera) when Roy's fortune starts to come true. And the one where Roy thinks Orson is going to get revenge on him for dropping 50 pounds of creamed spinach on his head. Then a "forest ranger" shows up, which looks like Orson in disguise and Roy doesn't fall for it so he makes the "ranger" fall into Orson's mudpool, but then the REAL Orson shows up. The look on Roy's face is just an epic win.

Also I agree with the above poster. I love how Garfield makes a cameo appearance as "Catty Fatty." lolz.

My favorite characters have to be Orson and Roy and maybe Wade. I actually really can't stand Booker the chick. He just annoys me.

I always liked Bo too because nothing ever fazed him.

I love US acres, in fact they were usually IMO better than the garfield eps!

I liked the US Acres. It was a good break in between. And this old animation show is much better then the nee 3D one they show now. I just got the first volume of Garfield and Friends off of Netflix for my niece and me to watch so she can see how much better this old version was. She likes it a lot.

Always liked US Acres and how it complemented the "regular" Garfield. Plus, Wade is comedy gold

Love the Ozone Layer line in that one too!

I don't hate US Acres, Garfield was just aimed more at older kids and had more sophisticated plots while US Acres felt more like a little kids show with simple plots and lessons like imagination and friendship. Not always, but that was the overall vibe I got.

I remember when if irst saw that - I was a teenager and that scene came on and I was cracking up and my mom was standing there giving me the strangest look. Now we have all the epis on DVD and my kids watch them!

I remember little about US Acres but I thought it was hilarious when the Duck was worried about being in jail because he tore off a tag from the couch

I haven't heard much feedback from others, but I personally really enjoy U.S. Acres. I always have. Like most, I find Garfield superior but I am still fond of the former. I have very warm memories of watching Garfield and Friends as a kid. Luckily I was able to pick them up on dvd before they were taken out of print (I'm assuming that's what happened) and skyrocketed in price.

I love that episode! It was one of two episodes I saw on Boomerang as a kid. Here are my favorite parts:
"Orson! Is this your paper here underneath the sofa?" (starts pulling on it) "It's stuck!" (pulls on it again) "Yaaaaaaah!" (lands into the waller)
"It starts with just a little thing no one would miss at all. What possible, perceivable harm can it do just to break a little law? What harm can it do? What harm can it do? What harm can it doooo?"

reply

It always bothered me that they cut away the U.S. Acres parts here, since the characters were still in the intro.

reply

I didn't like the U.S. Acres portion of the show that much, mainly because there's too many musical numbers. I've grown more a custom to it as I get older though, still enjoy Garfield more though.

I an't afraid of no ghosts!

reply

I've always liked then. I really like Orson, Wade and Bo.

reply

I love U.S. Acres better than Garfield! My favorite character is Aloysius Pig, Orson's pushy cousin voiced by Kevin Meaney who works for (DA DUM!) The Network.

reply

I like some aspects of U.S. Acres (Wade and Bo primarily, and - to a lesser extent - Orson), but I find Roy, Lanolin, and Booker aggravatingly annoying and the farm setting static and boring. Maybe if the U.S. Acres segments were shorter - or cut in half, with each half sandwiched between the Garfield stories - I'd be able to appreciate them more.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he wasn't a great big pansy.
