What was Buddy talking about?

In the gym when Jerry pays buddy the $350.00 and buddy decides to call off the fight. Buddy says to Jerry "You know what Mitchell" "You're the biggest p---- Ive ever met in my life" after that he says to Jerry "You didn't even try,how does that feel" what was Buddy talking about?

Well ok but I really don't see how he would be considered a pussy for not fighting Buddy. Jerry fighting someone like buddy would of pretty much have been suicide. I thought you would only be considered a pussy if you wouldn't fight someone at least your own size, or if you wont fight anyone who is not even stronger than you.

reply

True, but the bully would never see it that way.

reply

The point is he tried a hundred different ways to get out of the fight instead of standing up for himself, which is what he realized after Buddy made that comment. He didn't deserve to get beat up and it wouldn't have been a fair fight, but he shouldn't let someone walk all over him.

reply

However on the flip side if he made no effort to get out of the fight then people will call him stupid. Its a lose lose

reply

He meant that he'd beaten up a lot of guys, but even the weakest of them had made a stand and not whined to be taken off the hook without at least trying. When he asks him, how does that feel?, it's with contempt and disgust. What kind of a man wouldn't even try to stand up for himself? (Actually, nowadays, too many, but we've become hideously pussified since 1987.)

Probably from a bunch of parent's like Jerry. I notice my generation (I was 17 in 1987) is highly at fault from creating the pussification of America. Thankfully I don't have kids.

Craig Matty had significant physical stature of Buddy and Buddy just went at him without a second thought. I'm guessing that Buddy finds the will to take a shot to be more respectable than crying one's way out of a difficult situation. I've seen smaller guys take on bigger dudes and get the best of them. Being big only tells part of the story. Some big guys just don't have the heart to be in a fight with a really aggressive opponent.

reply

I think Buddy was turned off by how much effort Jerry put into getting him to call off the fight. He begged, pleaded, paid off some football player, got thrown into detention, and tried to pay him off. Buddy saw all of that as pu$$y behavior because instead of just trying to fight him (even though he would have surely lost) he tried every way out of it. He didn't expect Jerry to win, but he wanted him to at least show up and throw a punch.

So Buddy was rhetorically asking what it felt like to have no backbone and be a total wimp.

Buddy was saying that Jerry didn't even try to fight him. Maybe with others, they would've fought him no matter what. Personally, if he had said that to me, I'd have not cared.

LMAO! Introducing The modern-day nutless man, ladies and gentlemen!

The point of the movie was to be like the Karate Kid or Rocky. Face your fear, overcome your challenge and grow some freaking balls. The fact that you all are comfortable being little whiny girls, says a lot about the state of men today.

Pretty soon our military will be a joke.

Sad, but true.

Broken bones, bruises heal, being a pussy is a lifetime sentence.

I grew up in a small town. As a freshmen we were initiated by the entire school, not just the SR., but the SO. and JR. took part. This always bugged the crap out of me because I knew the class ahead of me was never initiated, here they are just one year older and taking part in this.

We had all our clothes taking from us accept our underwear, was told our clothes were going to be at the school, about a 3 mile hike in about 45 degree weather.

My SO. Year comes and I'm at a party. The SR. out there decide to initiate the Freshman, strip them down to their under wear and just hang out at the party for an hour. I'm cornered by 4 JR's, the a-hole class one year older than me. I'm told to strip down and I've got to do it too. I tell them to go *beep* themselves I'm not doing it, I'm a SO. and I've already been initiated. I told them they'll have to kick my ass, we'll a 4 on 1 fight breaks out, they get me on the ground and are kicking me, it takes a while before others get there to break it up but I took a pretty good ass kicking.

I was a big kid, 6'3 215 lbs. My SO. year. Any of those 4 kids I could kick their ass one on one. That night, I vowed, one by one I'd get them alone and kick their ass, I didn't care if it was at school and I got suspended, it didn't matter.

The thing is, word got out what happened. The SR. class that initiated me and was out of school found out what happened and they were pissed. They show up to a party the next night and beat the living crap out of these 4 guys. It kind of felt like justice, but didn't like the idea of others fighting my fight. I decided I was still going to kick the ass of the one I felt started the hole thing, but I'd let the other 3 off the hook.

I got him about a week later, really wasn't much of a fight, just let him know if he ever tries anything again, it won't be pretty.

Yep, sure I could of just stripped down to my underwear and been the only Sophomore at the party being initiated, but I'm not a pussy.

reply

Well, then why all day did Jerry even bother to get out of the fight? Makes no sense. He finally is out of the fight and Buddy calls him that and that ticks Jerry off enough so he'll risk getting his ass kicked? Ridiculous. But this film was a John Hughes wannabe that suffered badly.

reply

The purpose of Buddy Revel wasn't to scare or discomfort Jerry, but to challenge him to stand up for himself.

...and Mrs. Taylor sure seems to use a lotta ice, whenever he's away

reply

my favorite line in the movie- you didn't even try. how does that feel?

I think you're dead on. I was in a similar situation when I was in junior high. I can't remember why, but this chick was going to beat me up. You've got to picture this; I was 5'6" and I weighed less than 100 pounds. These guys called me "Stick" because my legs were so thin.

So, I pulled a Jerry Mitchell. I was no match physically so I figured I would disarm her. When she got on the bus, I asked her to sign my yearbook. Crisis averted. Was I a pud? Maybe so. Did I care? Hell no!

She did it! She did it! The lady with the grape!

reply

I think that Buddy was the one being the pu$$y. I mean, what did he have to prove, fighting someone like Jerry? In any normal circumstance, he would 99.99% of the time come out the winner. He was bigger, stronger and a lot more experienced at fighting. Jerry just got lucky because Buddy was distracted by the people helping Jerry. Plus, Jerry got the brass knuckles and managed to duck and get one good shot in with them. Really though, in most real situations, someone Buddy's size would look at Jerry and say "pfft, you're not even worth it."

I was being patient but it took too long.

reply

Buddy wasn't a pussy, Jerry touched him and doesn't like being touched. Size or age didn't matter to Buddy. The principal, security guard, football player and buddy.

reply

Whoever else he fought, when it came to Jerry, he was absolutely being a pussy, because Buddy outweighed him, was taller, more built and a lot more experienced at fighting. It should have been an easy win. The only reason it wasn't was because of other people involved. My point is though, he got what he deserved for picking on someone much smaller than him. Oh so he didn't like to be touched? Big deal! So society has to bow down to people like him who have unreasonable demands? I don't think so.

I was being patient but it took too long.

reply

Buddy was referring to Jerry not even attempting to fight him.

reply

It's about dignity and having courage. Jerry was being a coward. Buddy saw potential in Jerry until that moment.

reply

It always bugged me that he thought he needed a loaded fist to beat Jerry

reply

Jerry held up better than every other opponent. It solidified buddy as a villain.

reply

BUt buddy punched out the football guy and wrecked the library

reply

Yep, Jerry hired the football player. He threatened Buddy and broke the no touch rule. Buddy's rule was simple and his response was a direct action to maintain his version of dignity.

reply

Great scene

reply

Oh yeah.
