Massive Plot Hole Ruins Classic Status

Superman 4 The Quest For Peace is considered one of the all time great films of the Superhero genre.

However it has one glaring plot hole which kind of makes it hard to enjoy to the level it deserves. Namely this:-

We see a strand of Superman's hair supporting the weight of 1000lb. However Lex Luthor then steals it by using a pair of simple, bog standard wire cutters!!

Surely this would not be possible given the incredible strength of the hair. An absolute howler of a blunder and one that we must consider a massive plot hole...

This masterpiece is now ruined for me.

reply

how can we possibly know what would it take to cut that hair?

reply

Superman is of course a fictional character, so unless it has been addressed in the comics themselves we may never know.

reply

Oh, but I can save this masterpiece of the cinematic art for you. Hard to see but I think Luthor cuts the metal wire that is wrapped round the upper and lower ends of the strand of hair. I suppose the hair was just too short to actually tie it off at each end, so that's how it was secured.

reply

Thanks. I thought you'd cracked it there but I looked at the clip again on the youtube:-

And it looks like he makes the lower, first cut more towards the middle, so it looks like he is just clipping through the hair.

Therefore, alas, the acclaimed place this holds in the annals of modern cinema remains under threat by this glaring plot hole...

reply

They were Kryptonian wire cutters, so its not a plot hole

reply

I'm pretty this movie is in the same category as Batman and Robin as one of the worst Comic Book movies ever.
