Because of this, we were cheated out of Spider-Man

According to the trivia section:

The failure of this film at the box office prompted The Cannon Group Inc., to cancel a planned production of "Spider-Man".

I also read:

In an online interview with the Planet Origo website, director Albert Pyun said that he was hired to direct "Spider-Man" for Cannon Films back in 1988. He said that his movie would have featured the origin of Spider-Man, featured Dr. Curt Connors, a.k.a. the Lizard, as the film's main villain, and that most of the movie would have been featured in the sewers of Brooklyn, where Spider-Man would chase after, and fight with, the Lizard. His plans to direct "Spider-Man" fell through when Cannon Films went bankrupt. Oddly enough, his basic story line was used in 2012 in the reboot The Amazing Spider-Man (2012).

So because of this movie we were cheated out of getting a Spider-Man movie. We had to wait 15 long years. I read that Charlie Sheen was campaigning for the role back in the 90's. That would've been interesting and pretty cool, in my opinion.

It might have been bad in a cheesy fun sort of way like SUPERMAN 4 or Golan's CAPTAIN AMERICA (1990). I don't think it would have been anything spectacular, though.

Cannon supposedly planned SPIDER-MAN and MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE II around the same time, but budget problems were probably the biggest issue. Albert Pyun was going to direct both, but the productions fell apart, and Albert supposedly put together CYBORG (1989) to recycle a lot of the costumes and sets made for the other two.

The failure of SUPERMAN 4 also prevented SUPERMAN 5, which would have recycled footage already shot, like Superman's battle with the first Nuclear Man. That combined with new scenes shot by Christopher Reeve in the director's chair. I'm honestly more curious how that would have turned out than I am for a MAN OF STEEL 2.

Yea but starting in the 2000s, we got 3 separate Spiderman film franchises to make up for this

Meh, I don't think we were quite there effects wise for Spider-Man movies in the late 80s or early 90s. It'd probably be more like the old 70s Spider-Man TV Show.

Yeah, at this time, the quality to film it with CGI wasn't quite there yet. I guess maybe they could have shot the vine swinging via blue screen but it'd look a bit hokey.

Would you really have wanted a Spider-Man film from these guys?
