I was setting out to really enjoy this film... but i didn't really it was pretty good, although everyone was so rude ridden with attitude and bad temper. Stereotype of the business employee perhaps but unconvincing and annoying. It's good to see Michael J Fox running around though and sliding everywhere.. he does this really well.. 6/10
Have you ever worked in New York City? Youre going ot find out if you ever do, that the business world in the city can really kick your arse whenver it wants to.
no i haven't. still there's no need for these people to frown, demand and be so rude consistantly.. I know this palpably exists in a business environment but i feel that the businessman/woman stereotype was exagerated too much in a negative sense. so much so that i have reacted and resoponded by posting a comment on imdb.
There's a little thing called "conflict" that is necessary to make something dramatically interesting. If the "attitude" of people in this movie is too much for you, I recommend you stick to watching My Little Pony or Bob the Builder videos. They'll be easier to digest.
It most definitely was not an exaggeration of negative stereotypes. Wall Street people, especially those who are higher up than you, will grill you, cuss you out, and generally give you a hard time no matter what(they grill you like no other during the job interview); best way to survive is to throw it right back at them and demostrate that you're not gonna take any crap. For a good first-hand account, read "liar's poker," by michael lewis.
Does anyone here currently work in an office with people who act rude like they did in this movie and get by with it? I have never been to NYC, so all I know is the stereotypes I see on TV. That kind of attitude not go over well these days in TN. Rudeness and negative attitudes can get you in HR's office quickly, if not first on the layoff/fire list here. When we do performance appraisals, how you treat your fellow coworkers is a biggie here these days. It was different in the 80's, but times have changed. I remember working with people like that in the mid 80's, but that kind of thing is not allowed here anymore. Sometimes I feel like it's more important to make people feel good about themselves than to get the job done right.
Late response to an old post but keep in mind that the company that Brantley worked for was in danger of a hostile takeover so the employees were under much greater stress than usual and my have played a part in thier attitude. It doesn't excuse it, but it could have been the reason.
"True wisdom comes from knowing that you know nothing. That's US, Dude!"
Good point! It's been a while since I have seen this movie, but I didn't realize they were undergoing the possibility of a hostile takeover. If people think their jobs on the line, they are probably less concerned with how their attitudes appear since they may not be working there much longer anyway. And yes, it's just a movie. However, a young person in college who has yet to work in an office could see a movie like that and think people actually act like that in all offices. It's different everywhere you work, especially this time of year.
