Given the state of the U.S Economy and and countries that are tied closely to the U.S., who else out there thinks this movie is a foretelling of our actual future. (Neither the producers nor Stephen King may have intended it to be, but it looks like it could happen all the same.)
shareAbsolutely! I just watched this today after 15 years or so and it's a little scary how normal everything about the game show seemed.
When I saw this movie last, I thought the game show was a little ridiculous; it was still a good film, but the game show seemed a little over the top. Now, it looks like something that might pop up on Fox (you know it would start on Fox) as a mid-season replacement show and just take off!
Then there's the government control on everything, and the manipulation of film footage to create a different story than what actually happened -- like all the reality shows do already....
Yes, alberta1, I think you're right, unfortunately -- this film seems incredibly relevant in 2013.
I appreciate your agreement, SteverB, but I was referring more to the background plot than the TV show itself. (World economy collapsing, America becoming a fascist state, etc.)

Also got an eerie feeling after watching this movie again today, it's really almost like a omen of how our future will look like. Sometimes I wonder if humanity is blind to the current state of the world. We are worse off now than during the Cold War. Now the entire world is a war zone. The Middle East is succumbing to region-wide civilwar so soon the oil shortage will be reality.
