What Captain Freedom's suit was supposed to do?

I know that nobody can know for sure just from watching the movie, but maybe if someone read Stephen King's book and it was explained there. I always been wondering what his goofy looking suit was supposed to do. Maybe it just sort of gave him armor and extra strength. Any thoughts anyone?

I think t was supposed to cook food really quickly. It looked like a microwave oven to me.

reply

It looked like it just had a bunch of knives and weapons you could swap out for the arm.

Too Funny

The War has only begun, will you defend your destiny?

to look flashy and gimmicky, like the other stalkers

King's book is totally different. No Captain Freedom and hardly anyone else.

I just forget about King's book when I watch this.

Heck, I didn't even like SK's book, even though it may be technically "better." Richards has the last laugh it the end, but it's ultimately pessimistic.

There's no rousing triumph with the hero getting the girl, and the corrupt govenrment being exposed, like it is with the movie. I'll take the movie any day.

I think his suit was "junk" and Captain Freedom called it, and it also symbolized the "junk" that was going on with the currupt show. The show was based on lying, cheating, and gimmicks, C.F.'s suit was just another one of these things....

reply

Hmm i did wonder about the ending.
I mean, even if they managed to prove that "The running man" TV show was a scam, they are still being oppressed by the government. It's not like arnie ended the movie by soloing the US army.

reply

Was thinking the same thing. The ending was supposed to wrap everything up on a "cheerful note". The rebels win, Killian is dead and Arnold gets the girl (complete with a quintessential 80's score). But the reality is that they didn't really change anything. Their society is still being oppressed, they'll replace Killian with another host and the powers that be will continue with their evil ways. A hollow victory if I ever saw one.

reply

yeah but it all went out on big outside TVs , so maybe that caused a revolution

reply

That would have been a good idea for a sequel. Arnold and friends waging war against a tyrannical government (like the rebels from Star Wars vs The Galactic Empire). Too bad it never came to be.

reply

It was meant to slow Captain Freedom down, because without that awkward contraption strapped to him, Captain Freedom would rip guys apart with his bare hands in no time at all.

Laugh it up, fuzzball.

Good answers everybody. Now, did anybody notice when Captain Freedom was fighting Arnie (in fake footage) he wasn't wearing a suit? I guess that's because they wanted to show him that he can fight and win without any gimmicks. But again a missed opportunity to show off his suit's powers :)

The suit's power was to get more candy than any of the other kids in the neighbourhood.

...then whoa, differences...

It did look terrible.

It was supposed to prevent him from being naked.

Perhaps part of some sort of pulse weapon or such?? It looked VERY crappy and cheap...

It made him a sexual Tyrannosaurus.

When I was a kid, I always thought he was trying to be Megatron from The Transformers.

I always thought that it was just something the studio tossed together quickly to give him something flashy to wear. Capt Freedom had been retired for years, and they didn't wear gimmick outfits back when he was active, so there is no reason for him to have had a suit or armor laying around. The studio built as a last minute thing and thats why it was all squeaky and falling apart as he wore it.

Far as actual capability, I assume it combined the features of the other stalkers. So it had the ability to shoot fire and electricity from that one arm plate, with possibly attachments for a chain saw blade of some sort on the other arm.

There's no way a person could move around in that thing and hope to win in a hand-to-hand combat. The knives were about to come out of the suit. Extremely not practical.
