Angelika Jager

This was Angelika Jager's one and only film, which is a terrible shame. She is by far the best thing in it. She can't act or deliver dialogue whatsoever - she can't even stand still convincingly, and she gives the impression that she was trying to deliberately sabotage all her takes. Perhaps she didn't get on with the director.

I can only assume she was hired because she was willing to take her clothes off, but I'm puzzled as to why she was never in anything else. The direct-to-video market has always had work for women who can't act, but look good naked, and she could always have been dubbed. In fact it puzzles me as to why she wasn't dubbed, given that the robots at least were looped later on.

Perhaps she was a random German tourist who the producer spotted shopping one day, or she was the producer's girlfriend, or the producer wanted to get into her pants, in which case I wonder if it worked. Or the director told her at the start of the film that she should act like a broken robot, and she took it too literally.

Maybe she didn't want to act, or maybe Empire Pictures didn't make any other films in the Italy area she was in. We don't know much about her, maybe she was married with children, or later had children. Or Italy film-makers saw this and said "no way."

An American straight-to-video film made in Italy.

Doubt it was shot in Italy since the outside shots were obviously and comically New York City from Central Park (one time they even right by a Central Park sign) and then it looked like maybe the Bronx and/or somewhere near Staten Island (where you could see the Twin Towers in the background).

i'm sure she's just waiting for the right role.

when you come out of the gates this strong you don't need to just jump right into the next movie.

reply

I hope you had your tongue firmly in your cheek when you wrote "coming out of the gate strong". This woman couldn't act her way out of a wet paper bag!!! She can't deliver lines and it really is beyond me how she got this part. Even if the director got some action backstage he still should feel cheated.

reply

Absolutely correct. Modeocre movie, poor actress.

reply

Still feel cheated? There is no possible way.

reply

I'm sure you're right. I can see her now....turning down script after script...

A year has passed, and by coincidence I decided to watch the film again and also look it up on the IMDB - to find myself from a year ago. Ms Jager's performance is still mindbogglingly bad. Even assuming the production was a parody I can only conclude that she was a random passerby who was press-ganged into the production, and she could not speak English and had to deliver the lines without understanding the words. And the director did not speak German and so had to direct her by drawing faces in a notebook. Smiley face for evil; frowning face for anger; blank face for petulant irritation, that kind of thing.

I just watched this masterpiece and have come up with several possible scenarios as to Angelika's performance. One possibility she never wanted to be in the film but as we all know there are those who will go to extreme lengths for a Klondike bar. Possability number two when preparing for the role she was told that she would play a robot and being the eighties did a character study of Teddy Rukpin. Scenario three the casting agent did not intend to have her play the lead but the director saw this happening and I'll tell you what nobody puts Anjelika in the corner.

reply

Not the worst I have ever seen, and a beauty that would've earned her more chances at it. In time, she might have even been able to deliver a few lines here and there. She was clearly the star of this little film.

I realize this is an old thread, but I thought she was magnificent. Her accent, her facial expressions, her tonal inflections, the way she held her head, her posture, her poor delivery, nothing she did was in any way convincing whatsoever. I've never seen an actor care any less about her role, it was wonderful. She made no effort to impress anyone. You have to admire that.

reply

She actually had one other "acting" credit" in something called Wilder Westen, inclusive. Hard to believe someone hired her after seeing her "performance" in Robot Holocaust.

reply

She is the only reason to watch this flick

This thread has made me determined to find it.

I saw it was on Comet today, but it's available on youtube

thanks!

I found it on youtube, but got an error when I tried to download it. But if you have a stable, high speed connection, you could just stream it. I ended up with the MST3000 version, which is cut. You really want the full, uncut movie, if you can find it, as there is a brief scene in which Ms Jager goes topless. Brief, but totally worth it. Though the MST3000 version is quite funny.

As the above poster stated, she is the only reason to watch this movie. Though the other two lead actresses are not too hard on the eyes either.
