how can anybody give this movie a rating of 7.5. This must be one of the most stupid movies i've ever seen. Nothing makes sense in it, it's slapstick humor for kids that like when somebody draws a funny face or slides over a banana. It's not funny.
And how anybody can compare this to the 'big lebowski' which is indeed very funny and is absolutely ten times better than this piece of nonsense is beyond me.

There was certainly something that felt cluttered about the film (perhaps, due to the tonal whiplashes, i.e. the seriousness of Ed's desire to be a mother, the cartoon-ish criminals, HI's twisted boss and all of those whimsical action sequences). However, it never really lost focus of the "serious" things - the things that mattered - and it came back from all the fancy detours to make a saddening point about how fantasies may be the most satisfying refuge in this cruel reality - a reality which refuses to let you have your own family. On that note, I'm super glad that Mr Arizona didn't hand over the baby to the odd couple just cause they couldn't conceive... for a second or two, it did seem that that's what was going to happen.

I have to agree. I was 16 when this movie was released, but for some reason, I just never had the urge to see it, despite people praising it. So finally, I recorded it the other night and watched it last night. Holy s#it, what a turd this movie was. No wonder I skipped it all of those years.
shareI agree with callmehi. Yes this movie has slapstick. So does Chaplin, the Marx Brothers, Woody Allen, Mel Brooks...and like their movies, this movie has that and so much more.
I think it's one of the best, most quotable scripts of all time. Superb, endearing performances from all the leads, including the baby. Shot in a very creative way on a tight budget. Somebody compared this to Police Academy?? I mean, just LOOK at how this movie is shot and then look at Police Academy, or almost any other comedy of the time. No comparison.
This movie is NOT stupid. If you don't like it, fine. But it's not stupid.
I actually kind of agree. I was bored with this movie and extremely disappointed after everything I'd heard about it. It doesn't hold a candle to Fargo or The Big Lebowski.

Everybody I know that has seen RA likes it. Even people like my mother who HATE slapstick. You like Big Lebowski but hate this? You are conflicted and confused. That makes no sense, and Big Lebowski is definitely overrated at 8.2*. This film deserves 7.4*.
shareThis ls like Mel Brooks stuff. Viewers miss the jokes because they don't pay attention or have no grasp. The references to other films go unnoticed to them. Here's one - remember Cody on the motorcycle with the grenades around his neck? Ref to a more serious role he played in "Uncommon Valor". The comedy is double and triple layer deep and ppl just don't get it. The Cohns rock from "1941" to "No Country For Old Men,", "Fargo" and "O Brother." amassing awards for all. RA is fantastic and their upcoming film, "Unbroken" will be a sweep.
People that don't get RA aren't looking deep enough, those that call the movie stupid aren't smart enough to understand the humor, the whole movie is tongue in cheek and deeply layered.

shareThere are always people who find the need to be simply disagreeable. It comes with the attention seeking personality type. You feel like you don't fit in. Bashing this movie might put you into that category. If you don't get that it's funny and clever then you don't get much of anything...
It's like when you're sitting listening to someone tell a hilarious joke and there's that one stone faced putz sitting there and never even cracks a smile. Hello, that makes you the boring one with the stick (you know where). You think you're so smart or something....Chill out and just learn to laugh a little. jeez..
