Nicolas Cage = Worst actor ever

now let me begin to say that i liked this movie. But it had a lot of potential that was destroyed by the horrendous actor, Nicolas Cage. Nicolas Cage has been in only one good movie, and he was horrible in it. (I'm talking about this movie.)

Yeah, he does suck, like Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts suck. He is an actor that can only "play" himself on-screen. If the movie calls for him to just be himself....which NO movie does, then he would be ok. Otherwise we get Nick and his constipated look, Nick and he thinks he is good looking look...which no one can pull off with that mug...or Nick and his clueless look. Not a lot of range.

If he wasn't related to Francis Ford Coppola he would have never been paid to be an actor, no matter what name he chose for himself.

I agree that he sucks NOW, but he did do two good movies (in my opinion). The first was this one, the second was a very very very cheesy film called Honeymoon in Vegas. I know I'm gonna get burned for that one but I don't care! I thought it was hilarious.

Have any of you seen leaving las vegas or adaptation?Seriously if you don't think that is great acting you don't know a thing about it, I also love him in this movie and moonstruck and I usally like it alot when he does comedy.Don't give him *beep* for national treasure or ghost rider, no actor would look good in those movies.

Don't ever call me a kubrick hater, or I will have my droogs beat you to death.

First of all, i completely respect your opinion in this subject but may I give you a bit of advice, and this is for others on this board who make the same mistake. When u are stating an opinion on imdb please remember to say ''i think...'' rather than just state it out like it is fact and the only possible conclusion, so u shud have said ''I think Nicolas Cage is the worst actor ever''.

Secondly, I think your wrong
If u look at his performances in The Weather Man, Leaving Las Vegas, Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, Wild at Heart, Face/Off, Adaptation, Matchstick Men, Gringhouse and Lord of War, I'm sure u can see why I would disagree with what you have to say. I THINK that he is a wonderful actor and even in average films like The Family Man, I THINK he was still quite good.
And to all of u who justified saying he was bad because he picked bad roles every now and then, I think you might as well be saying that everyone in hollywood is a bad actor.

reply

Nic Cage has made some bad choices but calling him a bad actor is silly

reply

I see that the people who don't like him have not watched the work of Kevin Costner

*beep* you

I think it depends on the person's taste, he's like one of those actors, either you love them or hate them. I for one love his movies, most of them anyways, I have quite a few of them I enjoy. I just purchased this one today, haven't seen it before so I am looking forward to it. Anyways I think it's rude when people say that we must be stupid because we like this actor or that actor and they do not, I see it happen a lot on these boards, can't anyone be adult and just agree to disagree and move on?

He's def NOT the worst actor out there, the actors out of business are most likely the bad actors. Nick continues to be hired so obviously the film industry would respectfully disagree as well.

Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Bringing Out the Dead, Con Air, The Rock, Face Off, Adaptation, The Weather Man.

He was great in all of them. Give the guy a break.

I think this was his best performance, actually. He was fantastic as H.I. I wish he still acted this well, I find him odd and unintentionally funny now.

So... who´s the other actor you´ve seen going about his business on screen?

reply

Nicolas Cage is one of the weaker big name actors out there, no doubt. However, there is no film out there that fit's his cast-type better than Raising Arizona. He played the part of HI to a T.

If you want to see him in a well done role where he doesn't play his cast-type, watch Adaptation.

Both films demonstrate he has the ability to act when challenged and coerced by the right writers and directors. That being said, his judgement in picking his roles is very poor, and has only gotten worse with the passage of time (Matchstick men, Bangkok Dangerous, Next, Ghost Rider... the list goes on and is continually more embarassing).

No-one's mentioned "Rumblefish". I thought he was pretty good in that too (only a supporting role, admittedly, but again a great film).

I agree this movie allows him to play to his strengths as no other, but he's been very good elsewhere - particularly "Wild at Heart" and "Adaptation".

As for only being able to play himself - this is Hollywood we're talking about, right? When did Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn, Lauren Bacall, James Stewart ever play anyone other than 'themselves'? Chameleons like Sean Penn or Cate Blanchett are the exception rather than the rule.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.
