Raising Arizona is one of those films i try to get people to watch. I dragged my brother to it when it was released and he loves it! A very underappreciated film. This is why i have no respect and no interest in the academy awards. If you can ignore a film like Raising Arizona then you know dick about good movies.
"Perhaps he's wondering why someone would SHOOT a man before throwing him out of a plane..."
I find it odd that people haven't seen it, especially since it is the funniest movie of all time (with Young Frankenstein). I've talked to four or five people who claim to be huge Nicholas Cage fans. I'd say Raising Arizona is in my top five favorite movies and they have all said they've never heard of it. How can someone who is a "huge Nicholas Cage fan" never heard of his best movie?
-------------------------------- I did sixty in five minutes once...
I consider myself a pretty big film fan (aren't we all?) but I had never seen Raising Arizona until last night. The only reason I ended up seeing it was because I'm trying to fill in all the gaps in the Coen's filmography before Hail, Caesar comes out next year.
I loved Raising Arizona.
The main reason I has never seen it before was because it has always been - in my opinion - poorly marketed. I knew it was a comedy about a couple who kidnap a baby. But then most of the posters I have seen show couple and baby lazing around on banana lounges! Which, as a subconscious reaction, always said to me 'couple steals a baby, flee to Mexico, and sit around sipping Pina Colada's for a while'.
A real shame, and I wish I had seen it 15 years ago.
