Girl who fell into well.... true story?
It's just that it's treated so very seriously in the film... makes me think it is real....

shareIts based on a true story about a little girl named Kathy Fiscus who was trapped in a well and died in 1949 at the age of 4. It had been broadcast just as we see it in Radio days. In the flim the girls name is Polly Phelps.
He's taking the knife out of the Cheese!
Do you think he wants some cheese?
Wow, thanx.... Me and my mother were 'sure' it was true by the way it was treated so seriously....
shareThe tragedy was felt throughout the word. As a child of 12 I remember it well in Toronto, where everyone was praying and hoping for her safe rescue. It was very sad.
Here is YouTube to hear Jimmie Osborne sing the following
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WW6IeRoI114
On April the 8th, the year ‘49,
Death claimed a little child, so pure and so kind,
Kathy they called her, met her doom that day,
I know it was God that called her away.
Playmates with Kathy were all having fun,
The story was told, they all started to run,
And as they looked back, she wasn't there,
It’s so sad to think of this tragic affair.
Just like a beast in the forest that day,
The abandoned well took Kathy away,
For over two days the well was her tomb,
Everyone kept praying they’d get her out soon.
Thousands were there from far and from near,
Workmen they struggled against sadness and fear,
But after two days their hope grew so weak,
They called down to Kathy but she never did speak.
After working so hard both day and night,
Digging for hours, she came into sight,
The little darling was dead, her life it was gone,
Now in San Marino there’s a heartbroken home.
I'm sure she's an angel in God's peaceful fold,
Playing with children in a mansion of gold,
As I stand alone, humbly I bow,
I know Kathy’s happy up there with God now.
Her grave marker reads:
KATHRYN ANNE FISCUS
"KATHY"
A little girl who brought the world together
AUG. 21, 1945 - APR. 8, 1949
Oddly enough, less than a year after Radio Days came out there was *another* real-life "little-girl-falling-down-a-well" news sensation. (Google "Jessica McClure".)
There were also well-known cases of children falling down wells in the '80s and '90s. Maybe kids should just stay away from wells.

I remember something about a little boy who was reportedly trapped in a well back in 1996...they even sent a monkey on a rope with a flashlight and a sandwich; turned out the boy was hiding in the barn.
That account always gives me the creeps for some reason.. *KAFF KAFF*...oh, well, better attend to this bug that's been going around...seems that everyone has it & many are starting to drop dead... *KAFF KAFF*....it's starting to really concern me...perhaps it's time for John MacClain to deal with this?
On a happier note, there was the case of Benjy or Benny Hooper, who was trapped in a well in 1957. He survived.
