Pelle the Conqueror will be free inside the UK paper The Independent on Saturday, 3 December. Hope someone reads this in time. I can't wait for it - I've never seen it, but heard so much about how wonderful it is.
The Independent is a good source of interesting/art house movies and they currently seem to be giving away free DVD's about every two weeks. I have to admit I had never come across Pelle the Conqueror before but watched it a couple of nights ago and was greatly impressed. A wonderfully evocative film, almost too depressing at times but ultimately full of hope for the human spirit. And thank goodness that European film makers don't feel the need to tack on Shawshank Redemption endings to all their movies. Life doesn't always end up "happily ever after" and just maybe Pelle never made it to the promised land. As scripted the film would never have made it past an American producers door but I tell you it is a film that stays with you for a lot longer than your average Hollywood over hyped blockbuster and definately sits up there amongst the best. Highly recommended.
O it sure was a very beautiful movie and I have it. I really love this movie. I have one question. Here it is: What happened in that one scene where i think it was the foreman. Did that lady do what i think she did. She cut him in place and look real bloody. Why did she do that? I think I know, but maybe one of you could tell me what really did happen?
