Does anyone know this?

I'm wondering 2 things.

First ,I found it odd that his name is Pelle Hvenegard and the movie is called Pelle Erobreren.Did they name the movie after this kid, or is it just a coincidence?

Second, what does the name "Pelle" mean? Is it of Scandinavian origin?

Well thats it

As far as I know, Pelle Hvenegaard's mum named him after "Pelle Erobreren" (the book behind the film). The name Pelle derives from the name Peter.

reply

no Pelle derives from the swedish name Per.

Well, Per also derives from Peter....

Exept the name being derived from other names. It doesnt actually mean anything. Very few Danish names have a specific meaning. For instance my name is Kristian
It means "the cristian".. not much of a supprise on that. But most names dont have a meaning.

I can clear this up for ya, albeit 5 years too late, perhaps, haha. "Erobreren" is actually not a name. You might know that the English title of the movie is "Pelle the Conqueror". In Danish and Norwegian, "erobreren" means "the Conqueror". Hvenegard is still his last name.

It's a coincidence. It's like Jack Nicholson playing Jack Torrance or Jack Napier. But Pelle is an unusual name so it's a bit of an odd coincidence.

Pelles mom named him after the Pelle the conqueror. The book is well known in Denmark and we read it in school. You could say it is a coincidence that he got to play the part, but then Again...
