You are all wrong. Claudia knew what happened to her and it became a way of life. Claudia realized she gets money for sex at an early age. Molestation exsisted but no one talks about it. If anybody repressed anything it was the mother. This is loosly based on a true story, which became a book and a play.

I agree with macklin-1, Claudia knew, she remembered & wasn't repressing anything. It was her mother that repressed or shoved down the emotions, feelings & memories- the movie hints that perhaps her mother anesthetized herself with alcohol- when she walks part her crying daughter's door as a child with a brandy snifter in her hand & pulls the door shut.

I think that you are right that Claudia didn't supress it. I think that the mother didn't supress it either, though. I think she did what a lot of mothers who don't want to know in her situation, just ignored it like it wasn't there. They don't want to know so they close their eyes. Or you could say wear rose colored glasses and pretend everything is perfect.
