I almost had to stop watching Near Dark...

...Because of Tangerine Dream. Does this film have an alternate version (like Legend) with an orchestral score? How the hell could such a good director allow her movie to be butchered by its soundtrack...

It is such a shame, because the movie is good; it has its flaws (pacing, etc), but a lot of high points (Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen).

reply

Really? I thought the score was brilliant and even went so far as to carry the film in certain spots.

reply

Not that I know of. The soundtrack just got re-mastered and re-released with your buddies from Tangerine Dream. As Tangerine Dream did the score for Legend as well, I'm guessing you're not a fan. Sorry.

reply

I love the score. It really fits the dynamic and mood of the film.

It's an iconic 80s Horror film, and to take out Tangerine Dream is to suck the '80s right out of it.

reply

Right on. I like Tangerine Dream.

reply

I hate it when they try to update an old movie by making any changes like that. Tangerine Dream is an essential part of the movie!

reply

Tangerine Dream also did the great sound track for the awesome "Sorcerer."

Also "The Keep," "Firestarter," and "Thief." And yeah, I'm a big TD fan as well.

Tangerine Dream is one of the best things about this film, i love all their soundtracks.

TD has one of the best movie soundtrack moments of all time with their "Fight at Dawn" piece, near the end of the movie. An absolute gem.
But I understand watching/listening (to) this or almost any older movies with fresh eyes/ears. They almost all fall flat.

The TD score is the only reasoned I watched it.
