Hypnotism
I was just wondering, when Maurice is having a dream, after his hypnotism, who is the woman he is holding hands with in the casket? Can someone tell me what they think the significance of the dream is as well? Thanks!

shareI think the woman is no one in particular but any woman who end up as his wife (if he were to marry as per Dr Barry's order) and the casket signifies that both had no life at all, ie it will be the death of them in every way except physical death.
In the other dream where he scoops out water, I thought that he was drowning/sinking in his agony aver his homosexuality. In fact he confided to Dr Jones that that particular night he was feeling his weakest.
I know who the mysterious woman is!!
It's Gladys. We don't see her in the final cut version, but she had a few scenes you can see on he dvd special features. She 's the red-head that smokes cigarettes on gigarette holder and wears glasses.
on the dreams scene, she's not wearing her glasses... but it's her!
and it's quite normal to find her here, coz 'in the book and the film script,, she is the only "female" to whom Maurice is attracted at one point.
Hope I made myself clear.... I did my best!
;-)
Yes, the woman is of no importance (she may well be Gladys but this is not the point). Only, it is not Maurice who scoops out water, it's Alec (Remember Simcox at table? "The gamekeeper asks whether the gentleman wishes to bathe between innings, he's just baled out the boat") so his dream switches from "any woman" to an undeclared Alec whose face we do not even see.
Ada (not Hall...)
well, yes, but this is Gladys! and quite coherent with the book. it isn't important in the finished version of the film but makes more sense with the deleed scenes.
anyway...
