the accent
does anyone else think that kirk camerons character wouldve had an english accent, and dudley moores character would not have had an english accent after they made the switch?

shareThat's an interestng question. I don't know if switching personalities necessarily means that Chris would speak with an English accent. Even if he has Jack's personality, it is still inside Chris' body and Chris is operating the personality and Chris doesn't speak with an accent, so I would think no. just because he now has his father's personality does not mean that he would have the accent. JMO.
shareYes, I wondered the same thing. And YES, after the switch I would imagine there would be an accent.
In the beginning when the crazy Uncle switches with the Indian, the voice of the Indian doesn't change but, the way he speaks is just like the Uncle. Now, if the Father & Son switch, I would imagine the accent would follow with. ....GOd, I've already wasted too much of my life thinking and writting about this...Later,
The soul dictates the behaviour (including speech patterns), the body just follows orders. If you change bodies/souls (or 'brains', which is of course ridiculous, even for a movie), of course your learned speech patterns follow wherever you go - you just have to learn to use the new body and customize it to your signals. Speaking with a different mouth (different size, shape and different tongue, vocal cords, etc.) all of the sudden, might be troublesome and take some getting used to, and it still would probably never sound completely the same (due to the physical differences), but of course it would sound 'as much the same as the physical differences allow'.
In other words, the sound would be different in pitch and other qualities, but the speech pattern should be pretty much the same, and recognizable. I am sure that two different people would form words in a very different way even with the same exact mouth - it's just the way they have learned to form certain sounds. Someone with speech defects would still have those defects, because they never learned the proper way of creating certain sounds, so they couldn't do it no matter what mouth they used.
So, yes, the son (father in son's body) should have british accent after the change, and the father (son in father's body) should have an american one, and form words very much like the son used to form them, when he was still in his own body.
It also contradicts the cat and the dog. How come the cat was able to attain the dog's bark and vice versa?
sharethey should have definitely switched accents.. the way you talk is psychologically dependant, not physical

Wow! It's cool that somebody brought this up!
I watched this a while ago after years and didn't remember the accent-thing.. I kept thinking how funny the movie could have been, if the accents had changed.
Well.. It's still a good 80's feelgood-movie that I enjoy, but if they'd do a remake the accent-thing should be there.
You beat me to it by five years. I was just coming on here to rant about that.
I’m willing to suspend disbelief about the whole switching bodies; but when there’s no accents – that’s where I draw the line.
Because of the low dosage the accents didn't switch. The cat and dog did switch because their body mass is much lower and would require a much smaller dose. At least, that's how I rationalize it. Considering it's a fictional serum you could make up any reason you want because it's not explained in the movie. I always wondered why the native american gave him the serum in the first place.
