I was thinking perhaps the shark is just an embodiment of evil or something, and is supernatural, which is why it roars and apparently has a connection with the mom.
Of course, they don't really communicate that and it's an absurd idea.
Only people with money say that money doesn't matter.
the original screenplay was full of supernatural elements.
In the original screenplay and Novelization.
The shark is actually the weapon of a voodoo doctor on the island.
Michael's assistants use a local with doctor for health, advice, etc. Michael doesn't like him because he believes he exploits the people of the island. The witch doctor calls to the shark to do his bidding. The DR even tries curses Thea's bucket and shovel, causing Thea to go into a zombie trance and walk out to the beach in the middle of the night. Michael stops her and snaps her out of it, but little did they know that the great white was in the water waiting for Thea to come to him.
I think it would have been fun to have seen the early draft be made, with all of these wacky elements! The shooting script only has a tiny amount of the early draft left in, some of which was filmed but not in any of the VHS, DVD or cinema versions, and only in some of the TV AMC versions.
Would have been creepy to have seen Thea in the water at night under the trance, as well as Ellen shooting into the water early on.
I forgot, but was his mangled corpse actually shown in the book, or is it just shown wrapped up from a distance while the ambulance/police are by the water?
I haven't read the original screenplay or the novel, so I don't know. I've only read the shooting script, which is only slightly different to what was released.
Thanks! The movie would have been even trippier with all of those scenes and plot aspects kept in!
I wonder what made them change it? Too over the top with the voodoo?
Also, some of the scenes in the shooting script aren't in any of the many versions I've seen, such as Ellen in the water at night shooting her gun into it, yet some here have said they've seen that scene before.
i think people claim to see it but haven't and just say they have.
One guy mentioned a scene from a movie being cut on the imdb board. I asked him, how can we see the scene and his response was "Dont worry i have seen it." ok. lol
There was also an additional subplot where Hoagie was actually an undercover DEA Agent. The new years eve casino belonged to the gangster he was investigating. The gangster also became friends with MRS. BRODY.
While i am at it.
A windsurfer is killed and there's a humorous scene involving an old newscaster and the shark.
