The shark is so ridiculous in this one.... So fake looking
shareThe mechanical shark itself was fine, the director didn't know how to use it.

Um...no. I'm going to have to agree with the original poster. This shark(s) was horrible.
In the shot where it's swimming towards the boat when Mario VP tags it, it's mouth is open and it is listing to the side. Sharks don't swim like that, unless maybe they're drunk.
And then when he is tagged, the shark moves and looks like one from the amusement park ride. I wouldn't be surprised if they used those for the film.
The sharks in every JAWS film looked like ass, what I meant was that the director didn't attempt to make it look better with camera techniques, shadowing, etc.
he just pointed the camera at it without attempting to make it look menacing, he didn't even seem to care that the sharks teeth were falling out in every other shot. The bright Bahamian sun didn't do it any favors either.
The shark in the first movie looks great. The second movie has a few shots where the Shark looks fake. But in this movie the Shark looks ridiculous. I hear what you're saying about the director and its clear that he didn't know what he was doing. But I think the special effects people who created the shark this time were just as bad.
sharethe big thing with this movie also is the shark is exposed in pretty damm clear waters. you could see most of the whole thing every time. so that is not going to help the authenticity a whole lot.
i liked the scenery though.
But in JAWS 2 when it's about to bite a knocked out Mike Brody the shark opens it's mouth and you can tell it's rubber as it bends.

The shark looked ludicrous and was positioned and "used" in a silly manner - to the extent that no terror or anxiety attached to this "terrifying monster of the deep".
And of course, both endings/death scenes were stupid. No suspense, either, as in: Cut to Peebles in the diving "car" where the shark is already in the shot. No suspense of having it swim up out of nowhere. It's just there with no buildup...

In my OPINION the sharks in 1,2&4 looked extremely fake in the close up shots.I didn't include Jaws 3 because I don't remember it.
