How would you have taken it??

So we all know Jaws 4 is far from a masterpiece.

Some people have only seen the movie and some people have read the book and read about the alternate scripted but deleted subplots.

My questions is:

if your an exec at universal and making Jaws 4 would you have done everything the same. Bahamas locale, shark impaling death etc.

Or would you have gone a completely different route??

Would you keep all the action in Amity?? Take it to anew location?? what charecters would you create or eliminate.

Eliminate the Bahamas, banana boat, Jake, Hoagie, all of that.

Make certain to honor the franchise (of course this depends on what kind of executive is ideally involved).

Make the shark scary, technically perfect in both apearance and motion. Depending on the funding available. If not enough funding, try to get more.

If the ocean was difficult for Spielberg in late spring-summer, it would be bad in the winter, but so what. Film in and around Amity. Have the shark attacks occur in and around Amity. There wouldn't be the Endangered Summer Crowds, but there could be endangered fishermen and others who live around and make their livings from the water. The various harbors could be dangerous enough places and this would not incur a lot of open-sea filming of the kind that plagued Spielberg.

Bring in Matt Hooper if Dreyfuss is available - or a Hooperesque surrogate, not a limited-screetime, grumpy icthyologist like happened in Jaws 2. The Hooper character would bring gravitas back to the franchise.

The shark itself - difficult question, especially if we've brought in Hooper. I'm no science fiction writer, but maybe there could be two sharks (why not? Two raptors caused a lot of havoc in Jurassic Park), or some "Fukishima Freak Shark" - something that would be worthy of Hooper's attention. Handled correctly, the presence of another shark, although unlikely and part of the mystical "Amity connection" that vengeful sharks seem to have, could be downright uncanny and chilling - again, if handled correctly.

No impaling shark death. Spearing, harpooning, gunshot, or maybe some new Hooper-invented weapon would work.

Hooper, Hendrix (or one of the Brody sons) and Ellen could form a bond during the new crisis. Maybe Hooper and peers could end up in some final hunt/climax with the new shark. Ellen could come along and, Martin Brody-like, save the day.

I'd have brought back Bess Armstrong, Dennis Quaid and John Putch. They all were so good in the other movie. I just could not connect with the characters.
Leave in the revenge angle, but then have Ellen figure out that this is not reasonable to feel as she does.

I've had this odd recurring dream for the past few years, where I'm both watching and taking part in a never released version of Jaws The Revenge. First I'm watching from the POV of a viewer, and the movie is just called Jaws IV (The number 4 is formed by two shark teeth, with the I and the V), and is about a new 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea style mini sub that has been built in Amity. The mini sub is part of a new marine biology company that has moved to the island recently, which allows the public to go under the water in search of sea life, or for a fun day trek. Problems arise when the sub loses some of its power while far under the water, and they captain is unable to bring it to the surface.

There's a group of around 20 people in the sub, raging from teens, middle age parents, much older people and a few children. Also, in my dream, there's no reason given as to why a new shark is there, and weirdest of all is that the shark doesn't even look that much like a great white. It's like this large somewhat bony, light grey colored mammal with calluses and very dry looking skin. The mouth is great white like, but the overall face and head is different, more flat but still large, and it comes across as a very old creature. It's also quite slow, and in one of my dreams, I was actually a character inside the sub, watching as someone tried to escape, and what was scary about it, was that the shark was so slow, that the person almost had a chance, until the last second LOL.

The rescue team is too nervous to go down into the water, open the hatch of the sub and try and take some people to the surface, because they can't tell where the shark is.

Now, if I had to make a movie out of this idea, I don't know what I'd do, but maybe I'd have the sound from the sub be what attracts a new nearby shark to swim to Amity.

My best opinion, is to have an Amity TV series on FX, even if it's only one season. Could be a lot of fun, and wouldn't have to be about a shark for every episode!
