Would this movie have been better if it had stayed in Amity, there was simply another shark and the "Revenge" plot was simply something all inside Ellen's head? I think so.

share1. Yes, Amity would have improved the "tone" if not the script.
2. Yes, another shark, not out for revenge, but of course then the script has to explain tiny Amity's attractiveness out of a worldful of possible shark-targets.
3. Yes, drop "revenge" as something from the shark's POV - however, it would still work as an idea-and-act of vengeance on the part of Ellen Brody.
Most definitely. Stay in Amity, and no revenge plot, and this would have been a decent shark movie. I guess they wanted to add a new plot device, but it didn't work.
I actually read the original novel for this movie, which the script originally followed. It was even dumber. In it, some voodoo man was the one that wanted revenge on the Brody's (I forget why), so he uses voodoo to possess a shark (due to the Brody's history with them) and have it attack them. In making this movie, they obviously realized how stupid this seemed, so they changed a few things (the movie had already been filmed), and reshot certain scenes, and this is what we got.
The "Revenge" plot was probably the dumbest thing they could've come up with. It would've been interesting to see how they could explain why Great White sharks keep finding their way to Amity.
shareIt seems like the voodoo subplot got axed at the last minute, but the shark was still out for revenge on his own...
I think we've got another shark problem.
