Any chance of a DVD release?

I saw this movie ages ago and would love to see it again. So, the big question will this be getting the DVD treatment in the UK? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

"Love is like a flower, holds a lot of rain."

The movie was originally released by Fox in the U.K. and if they still hold the rights it would explain why Anchor Bay couldn't release it here. A similar problem with 'The Boy Who Could Fly' A Fox release on video here but a Warner DVD release in the U.S..

reply

In the end I bought a US version and copied it, removing the region coding so I can watch it on a normal DVD player.

Bit of a long winded route, but I got it pretty cheap!

"Congratulations, you're going to go down in history as the man who killed Superman."

reply

I bought it on Region 1 DVD too. It's a pretty good transfer. Shame about the lack of extras though. There were music videos for both 'Catch Me I'm Falling' and 'Crying' but neither were included.

This movie is out on DVD. I bought it earlier this year from Amazon.com

Lionsgate are releasing a long overdue official Region 1 DVD of this movie on April 14.

"We're all part Shatner/And part James Dean/Part Warren Oates/And Steven McQueen"

reply

It was to be expected, as the rights to the film belong to Studio Canal they originally licensed it to Anchor Bay for its original Region 1 release and now I've noticed a lot of other Studio Canal titles are being re-issued by Lionsgate instead.

In the UK Optimum Releasing issues Studio Canal titles, Kinowelt does the same in Germany and Universal in the rest of Europe. Keep your eyes peeled!

Too bad it's to be fullscreen. The 2001-issue (now-OOP) release was WS.

reply

Is that actually confirmed yet regarding aspect ratio? I know it says fullscreen over at Amazon but I don't trust Amazon when it comes to pre-release information. Heck, I hardly trust any info Amazon lists on currently available items either (as I've sent them numerous corrections in the past).
Fullscreen wouldn't be the end of the world since this was shot in 1.37:1 matting off top and bottom during theatrical screenings. Zoomed on a widescreen set it should match the intended AR fairly well.

reply

It has the exact same audio and video transfer from Anchor Bay's original DVD release. In other words, anamorphic widescreen (1.85:1) and Dolby Stereo sound.

IGNORE THESE FOUR WORDS.

reply

Do you know if the menus and content are identical to the Anchor Bay? I'm asking because they ported everything from the Anchor Bay single-disc edition of Highlander to the Lionsgate release, all they changed was the cover and threw in some start-up trailers.

reply

They included a "Trivia Track", which pops up random bits of trivia while watching the movie. I usually like these tracks, but this one is really lame.

I cannot be 100% for sure about the menus, as I don't currently have the Anchor Bay DVD.

reply

Thanks, looks like I can pass on this one.

reply

I was hopeing the trivia track was going to be fun.
