What is the deal with the sniffing of the blood ? It can't be the alien's blood since it's mentioned in the movie that the only thing that can kill the alien is the weapon that Lloyd has. If no one is sure of what I'm talking about it, there are 2 scenes where he sniffs the blood: 1. when they're chasing the stripper up the stairs, there is blood on the stair steps 2. after the explosion in the jail cells when Beck shoots Masterson in the head, there is a trail of blood. Both times Lloyd Gallager kneels down, touches & sniffs the blood & knows the alien will be changing bodies pretty soon. This is after both Gallagher & Beck have shot the alien host so many times that it becomes noticeable. Is it the body's blood becoming contaminated with the alien's or what ?

Lloyd only does that because it's a signal that the 'routis creature' (the alien parasite) is about to change soon. So yes, you're right. The blood is contaminated with fluid from the creature's body and Lloyd has to be at the body when the routis creature is forced out. Remember, the parasite can only push the body past the normal brink of death but for so long and when the body starts to bleed to death because of multiple gunshot wounds, it leaves a trail of blood and Lloyd knows this is the signal to get ready to vaporize it.
