I think the makers of GTA were perhaps inspired by this movies walk/drive about do what you like feel

"Life is just one crushing defeat after another until you just wish Flanders was dead".

Totally I mean the first ten minutes or so are basically more GTA than GTA itself. It's also one of the best openings I've ever seen in a movie I might add.
