Final chase in the laundry room

How did the alien [inside Willis' body] know which way to go to where the senator was hiding [the laundry room] near the end of the film? I never noticed this until watching it again last night. By the way, this film is total greatness, even after all these years. It was almost like he went the right way of where the secret service agents went. I know when the alien was inside Masterson, it was told that the speech would be at the plaza, but no one mentioned anything about what happens if a security threat is detected. Aren't most folks in secret service or anyone involved in protection of a federal official supposed to be in discretion when it comes to security details ? If anyone knows the answer to this, I'd appreciate it.

I want to know why Beck just *stood* there and *surrendered* after his gun ran out of bullets. It almost looked like he was *waiting* to be shot.

I guess he thought the real Willis [whatever was left in there] would not shoot back. I would think that he could've figured out that it was not him anymore.

That's what I thought, but it's infuritating for Beck to make a mistake like that.

On the other hand, Beck getting shot gave us the scene where Gallagher chooses to stay at Beck's side instead of going after Willis, which is just as stupid, but forgivable. For me, it lent the final hospital scene a bit more pathos, in that, Gallagher *cared* about Beck, specifically... he wasn't just out to steal the man's family cause it was convenient.

The location for this film was Miami, right? I saw it for the first time last week and remembered the palm trees outside the building where they did the shootout scene. So that's my guess.

Nope, it was all shot in L.A. If you've seen other films based in L.A., they use the same buildings at times. Like the final scene, that building I've seen half a dozen times in other films [Stargate in the beginning of the film, for example]. There are certain scenes that give away its location. I'm just curious on what this remake will really be about. Knew there would be one for this film sooner or later. They better not damage the way the original was done. That was the most perfect storyline I've ever seen.

Yes, the Willis scene is in the Park Plaza Hotel. I would bet that the "burn the politician" scene is also in the hotel, which has a meeting room with a stage which resembles that location.

I didn't know any of this when I first saw the movie. Then I moved to L.A.; years later I watched it again and a lot of the locations jumped out at me. Some of them -- like the Neptune Mannequin factory -- I can't place.

Actually I was more concerned that the secret service agents led the senator into a dead end laundry instead of out the back door or some other exit.

reply

Yeah, they weren't very good at their jobs. But it's another case of movie logic. In the real world, it wouldn't happen like that. But in the movie world, it happens like that.

Because you have to advance the plot.
