One line I loved in this underrated gem...

*spoilers probably*

It's not a particularly humorous line. In fact, on the surface, it seems pretty cliched, a throwaway line; it's actually not.

It's when Beck (Nouri) and Gallagher (MacLachlan) are in the car and MacLachlan says that the man they're after (the alien) killed his partner. Nouri says that he didn't think the FBI would keep him on since they didn't really favor the whole personal case thing, especially cases of revenge.

MacLachlan: "What would you do?"
Nouri: "As a cop?"

And MacLachlan replies: "As a man."

In literally every other movie, a line like that would seem like a throwaway and, ultimately, cliched bit of forgettable dialogue. Probably would be used to refer to someone's masculinity, and what they would do as a *male*. In this case, MacLachlan, an extra-terrestrial non-human, seems not to be referring to just the fact that he's male, but seems to be literally asking what Nouri would do as a human being, a member of mankind.

Anyone else think this? I didn't catch it the first time around, but the second time you definitely start catching little things. Kind of like the "joke" where MacLachlan laughs and says "Yeah" when asked if he stole the Porsche he's driving. Ostensibly a joke, it turns out to be true (a fact acknowledged by Nouri in the film). Or when he's in Nouri's house and he smirks when he sees the telescope.

Great great movie. Very well written.
