Twin Peaks connection?

Taken in full, "Twin Peaks" is similar in plot to "The Hidden": indepartmental law enforcement of crimes committed by a being that possesses human beings. Kyle MacLachlan stars in both, and Michael Nouri looks a heck of a lot like Sheriff Harry S. Truman.

So what, if any, is the connection?

Yeah, I thought that too but i think its just a coincidence. However, I do believe MacLachlan patterned his performance as Agent Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks on his character from The Hidden.

There's more. Chris Mulkey, who played DeVries the bank robber at the very beginning was on Twin Peaks.

I always thought Agent Cooper was patterned after a cross between Joe Friday from Dragnet and the old radio investigator Johnny Dollar (he was an insurance investigator who kept a maticulous running total of his expenditures which he send to his secretary via a series of notes detailing whenever he purchased a cup of coffee, a donut or a plane ticket, etc.)

Well, Machlachlan acts quite alot like Agent Cooper while playing gallager.

They arekinda similar characters and this was propably good practice for Kyle.

Gallager doesn't act anything like Agent Cooper.

When the same actor plays two different characters, that have pretty much the same kind of job, it's easy to say 'he patterned him based on the other one'.

But it's the SAME ACTOR.

Obviously it's going to appear "the same", because it is the same, exact guy. Leading to the illusions that 'oh yeah, he patterned!'.

The only reason why they seem similar is because both are played by the same dude. They would always seem similar, no matter -how- they behave (unless the behaviour is drastically different - which it very rarely would be).

It's just so easy to look at a guy that plays two different characters, and make a claim that he somehow 'patterned' the other from ther other. And it'd be easy to agree, because obviously there are going to be a lot of similarities, it being the same exact actor.

Btw, are those sounds that we hear after the lab guy shoots the 'E.T. weapon' accidentally, the same sounds that we hear in 'Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home' as the early whale sounds (before they decode them) from the probe?
