So is Pinhead supposed to be genderless in the novels?

I read a paragraph and pinhead is refereed to as "it". Just curious.

I believe three of the cenobites are genderless and one is female, the one that's described as nude with scarified genitals who sits on a pile of severed heads.

reply

Ah ok cause in the scarlet gospels pinhead is a "he" now.

I don't really think of the pin-headed cenobite in the Hellbound Heart as being THE Pinhead as portrayed by Doug Bradley, and the Pinhead of the Scarlet Gospels is more of a reinterpretation of the movie character. Maybe within the universe of TSG, the events of THH did happen, but with Pinhead as the leader of the cenobites and the one Kirsty made a deal with.

I would say he is male as he was before he became Pinhead. Also, Clive Barker referred to "him" as Priest.

I don't love her.. She kicked me in the face!!

The whole Elliot Spenser thing wasn't in the Hellbound Heart. At the time, the idea that the cenobites were once human hadn't been conceived yet.
